This situation happens because the coach didn't do a good job of explaining what he will do based on the client's needs and probably hyping things up too much and pressure selling. This indicates a breakdown of communication. I avoid these situations by being upfront on what their current situation points to and what they need to do to arrive at their planned destination. Then, I reveal how I can help them arrive at their destination. By taking such an approach, I avoid changes mid-way through the program.

Feedback is always great and you definitely have to think about it. The main questions is always to actively ask for feedback and then to think what is the underlying trigger for the feedback and then think on how to address this.

We must build in the feedback opportunity to our coaching inquiries and programs. It happens that we might not assess the original inquiry deeply enough, or the client's priorities have shifted. It is absolutely normal to re-assess the need and re-calibrate the end goal once in a while during the program, even when the client doesn't come with transformational feedback. It is our job as coaches to ensure we remain providing relevant help.
