While there are a lot of advantages with matrix organization especially around collaborations, checks & balances, and optimizing resources within the company, it also comes with some disadvantages. A product manager can potentially get lost in the matrix system and end up spending too much time in the attempt of gaining approvals from cross-functional team, instead of focusing on creative solutions for the product that he/she envisioned.

Engaging Cross-Functional stakeholders in reviewing and updating your product portfolio and development process is critical before/during/after product development activities take place. This helps avoid pitfalls in priority misalignment, confusion, and wasted resources across product development teams.

Although I certainly agree with this when your product matures and evolves. When starting something from scratch, you need to have a vision and it might take time to make other people see that vision too. People can't tell you what they don't know. Feedback is a necessary part of improving one's product, service, and personal performance. I am not a touchy-feely type but I often find myself returning to the topic of company culture; does the organization have the culture, norms, and good sense to even ask for feedback and put it to use? Do people even know how to ask the right questions? Effective companies' employees have the humility and desire to improve. Without these prerequisites, we won't ask the right questions (or ask at all) and we won't take the feedback in the right light.

The time to feedback. Working in Agile everyone knows about and many track TTD (time to deployment). But how does it take for your team and organization to get feedback on ideas, features, focus groups, power users, etc? How long does that feedback take to reach the team as well as the stakeholders? Make sure your time to feedback is on par with your delivery.

I always describe culture as a plant that companies need to water regularly. Collaboration and communication are important and engagement is paramount. A good example would be a company producing a mix of recycling and non-recycling products when sustainability is at the core of their corporate strategy and their vision to become 100% eco-focused on their products.

In my experience as a Product Manager your mission is to get a product that brings as much profit as possible to your company, meaning a product with a good margin that sales well.
