What do you do if your AI team lacks diversity and interdisciplinary skills?

Few points to consider in my experience: 1. Evaluate skillset: Identify the specific technical /non-technical skills needed within your AI team. This helps pinpoint areas lacking diversity, like expertise in specific domains such NLP, computer vision, software engineering... 2.Review backgrounds: Analyze the educational backgrounds/prior work experiences of your team members. This reveals gaps in interdisciplinary knowledge 3.Measure team dynamics: Look for areas where open communication/collaboration might be lacking. Diverse teams with strong communication can benefit more from interdisciplinary skills. 4.Analyze project outcomes: Review past projects to see if limitations emerged due to lack of diversity/ interdisciplinary approaches

According to the analysis, I'd proceed to assess the team's capacity assessment to define which talents are missing. I'd refer to this process as an "audit". Beyond this, ensure you are digging below the surface and background, experience, and skills are under consideration. I can also say from experience that blending substance experts with AI experts, and having AI experts from multiple data science disciplines, yields remarkable impact. Don’t let a pet theory or a team imagining how “so and so” will use the AI, or what type of data would be representative, be the guide to your AI transformation initiatives. Include!

Training and upskilling the existing team should be the first approach to solve this problem. Before seeking for new individuals , it’s important to work with the team with best efforts. Incase there are members who are not giving back equal efforts back , then seeking for more skilled individuals is a good option.
