What are the best ways to stay motivated and focused on your career goals?

Remain motivated desipte of daily challenges is a tough task. However, its not impossible if you are clear with your goals and have broken them down in small achievable daily tasks. Do not forget to celebrate small wins and don't overthink on failures. Other than this, you should surround yourself with people who understands, supports and believes in you. While career is important, make time for yourself & family, and avoid burnout. Embrace the journey- learn, adapt & keep moving forward. The SUCCESS will be yours.

It is necessary to work on the objective that you have defined for yourself in your career and what set of difference that you would like to achieve in a span, it can be short term/long term. Most importantly it is also necessary to have someone who can provide you with the constructive criticism which will help you in developing the right mindset and define our path in the right direction if you deviate.

Being self-aware—that is, conscious of my own behavior—helps me, in my opinion, to remain motivated and laser-focused on my professional objectives. Additionally, knowing my learning style, being truthful, communicating openly, and being aware of my Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats.

The first question to always ask yourself is what is your WHY? Why do you do what you do? The next question is WHAT is your career development plan? Have SMART goals. Work backwards. Look at people you admire and try to find out what makes them stand out. Be open to learning and self development. Another question to ask yourself is, how can you find joy and fulfillment in what you currently do? If you are not happy with your current environment or the people in it, ask yourself how you have contributed to that situation and how can you change that? Be open to feedback and embrace change.

Don't be afraid to revisit goals periodically and make sure that they are still relevant to the path you are on. Think about how you can amend these goals for any soft skills (communication type ones for example) you have acquired along the way and how these can be transferred into a possible career. Check in regularly to see if your goals align with your CURRENT values and don't be afraid to change these if you've experienced certain behaviours which mean these have moved.

The best way to stay motivated is to throw motivation in the trash. Stay disciplined. Discipline will keep you moving towards your goals when you just don't feel like it.

There are a number of factors ro consider to stay motivated but the most important one for me is to constantly learn, adapt and keep moving. The path leading to your goal is always changing in this ever evolving corporate world. Have the agility to change course accordingly. Be rigid about the destination, not the journey

Think of your goal like a cool journey. First, plan it out in a comfy spot, making a simple map of steps like finding treasures. Grab what you need, like a positive attitude and some time for your adventure. Instead of a regular diary, doodle or draw in it to make each day fun. Use a calendar to mark off days like you're counting down to a celebration. Celebrate even small wins with a happy dance or by sharing with friends. Tell your buddies about your plan; they can be your cheerleaders. Enjoy the ride, and let each day get you a step closer to your goal!

La motivación ,en realidad ,es automotivación. Es decir, nace de cada uno de nosotros. Si estás esperando a que te motive tu jefe, tu compañía o tu cliente, estás en un error. Si tienes claro tu propósito y tienes claros los objetivos y además tienes confianza en tus aptitudes nada te podrá detener. Si además está en tu mano, trabajar en lo que te gusta, construir un entorno laboral estimulante, retador, y sobre todo positivo y amable, la motivación está garantizada. Obviamente hay circunstancias que te rodean , que no siempre juegan a favor y que pueden influir en tu motivación. Una recomendación : Si está en tu mano resolverlo, ocúpate de resolverlo. Si no está en tu mano resolverlo, no te preocupes de ello... ocurrirá de todos modos.

in Ali Abdaal's book "feel good productivity" there is a concept of NICE goals. This builds on the SMART goals to Near-term, Input based, Controllable, and Energising. By keeping your goals in the near term, you get the bite-size achievement gratification which helps to keep you motivated on to the next goal, whilst focusing on activities that energise you

The one rule I always followed was treating my career, almost like a game of chess. When I say this, what I mean is that you always need to think several moves ahead. If you are an underwriter, don’t focus on becoming a senior underwriter, focus on how you’d become an underwriting officer or chief underwriting officer. If you can scale your mind to think of the skills and exposure that you’d need to work on in order to get that role which is 3,4,5 even six levels higher then all of a sudden the goal to get to the senior underwriter role (1 role up) seems a lot smaller.

Honest feedback and genuine support is critical to keep us focused. It is also important that we remain open to accepting constructive criticisms that may be difficult to reconcile with our ego. The gift of discernment is also a beneficial skill to have as we analyse those feedback and receive the support. Discerning the intention behind the feedback must be one that leads to growth and progression of our goals. The support we receive can be varied, i.e physical, emotional and relational which creates a sustainable network of systems that enables us to progress in our career journey. We must be brave in calling out anything that deviates from our plans. Stay on track. Be graceful but people pleasing can be detrimental if it's unchecked.

Feedback Loop: Encourage open communication and feedback exchange among team members and supervisors. Constructive feedback helps identify areas for improvement and promotes growth.

Only seek feedbacks from people that you could trust. Not any Tom, Dick or Harry who may not have the best interest and ability to provide the right feedbacks. Always validate feedbacks with your inner circles to ensure that you safeguard yourself from noises. If any feedback does not sit well with you or agreed by your inner circle, then ignore that feedback till a similar one appears again! Setting boundaries and a governance system are as important as seeking feedback.

Receiving honest feedback and genuine support is crucial for maintaining our focus. It's equally important to stay receptive to constructive criticism, even when it challenges our ego. Developing discernment is valuable for analyzing feedback and support, ensuring they align with our growth and goals. Support comes in various forms—physical, emotional, and relational—forming a sustainable network that aids our career journey. We should courageously address anything diverging from our plans, staying committed and graceful, yet cautious of the pitfalls of people-pleasing when left unmonitored.

- Have a game plan for yourself as part of your goals. 1) set an annual planner, that I should obtain an MBA for example by July 2024 and then my goal is to build towards what I have studied in this MBA. 2) how will you conquer your weakness? Do a little something everything to overcome any weak points or skills that will help you grow 3) track your performance on a monthly basis, see where you stand in the middle of the team and analyze on how can you make yourself better. - Achieve atleast 1 milestone every year and if you can, segregate them by naming them as small and big milestones (this will help you stay focused on the bigger picture) - read a book or watch any mentor videos that help you everyday to learn a new skill.

Embrace feedback. View it positively as a way to improve oneself. Do not be too hard on yourself if you slip up as it is part of the improvement learning process. Stay focused in becoming a better self knowing it is not a linear upward curve.

While having spent time over 20 years in finance it might get boring or tedious at times. What has best worked for me is embracing short/mid term goals. Being the leader of a finance team does not deeply vary, we are guardians or the internal control and strategist of the growth initiatives. I would recommend to set goals on the strategy side that point to maximize income (cost reduction, discounts assessment, maximize A&P) and on the other hand, improve working capital (inventory management, distribution cost, implement automation in AP or AR). Have fun and develop your team, that’s also something that would keep spirit up !

One thing I have found in my career is that learning is journey continuous improvement, constant learning engagement helps to improve one's cognitive functions and analysis memory there by helping to remain focused towards your goals. To me it's all about numbers, that keeps me motivated and that's all that counts ultimately! "How much profit have we made today"? "What more can I do"? I’ve studied the similarities of hundreds of millionaires - billionaires and one thing they all have in common is a consistent early morning daily routine: 1. Wake up at the same time daily and immediately make your bed. 2. Brush your teeth and then recite several empowering affirmations. 3. Combination of working out, meditation, prayer, journaling, and reading for at least 60 minutes. 4. Eating a healthy breakfast with at least 16 ounces of water. By winning the morning with a healthy routine you automatically set yourself up for success. Win the morning, win the day.

Balancing your work and life is the prerequisite for building a fulfilling life and having success at work. We are human, we are meant to be happy (on the whole). Happiness, calmness, clear thought and mind processes and having a great life outside of work ultimately makes us much more productive in work. Clocking in silly hours is counter productive... and will bring you down eventually. Work smart, be engaged and laser focussed when you're at work, and go home and enjoy life!

Making a living & living life are different.Today digital technology with its accelerated connectivity & a pressure to be instantly responsive is creating a growing expectation to be available at all times; causing insomnia, stress & anxiety. It’s important to de-stress, reduce pressure, anxiety for our productivity. We need to ensure that personal and professional life are seen less as conflicting aspects and more as complementing essentials for a full life. A healthy work life balance safeguards our lives by setting boundaries and promoting our overall well-being and also maintain high productivity levels. An imbalance impacts us both physiologically & psychologically, whereas a healthy balance is instrumental in increased motivation .

Ah, good old work-life-balance. The myth. The illusion. The fantasy. A time for being what, all-in and suddenly all-out? Life is too short for this. And sadly, trying to strike this magical balance will likely result in a lot of missed opportunity & angst. Work-life-integration? Now that’s something we can talk about. Something that is far more attainable. “Do something you love and never work a day in your life” is a quote that rings true here. “Being a husband and father who happens to be an entrepreneur” is another. “The journey is the dream” is another favorite. And probably most importantly, “If you’re winning at work but losing at home — you’re losing.” Brings these concepts together. Don’t balance them. Integrate them.

Too much focus on your work and not maintaining an appropriate work life balance will not take us too far . Eventually this imbalance will lead poor satisfaction, mental stress, unproductivity, problematic behavior at work or home. Therefore maintaining a healthy rhythm between our professional work and personal life is extremely important for higher productivity, commitment and motivation to work and grow.

Tracking and monitoring our progress, ensures continued efforts towards our objectives, keeps us on track and avoids complacency to set in. It further helps us in identifying any obstacles ahead, and gives us a window to go back on the drawing board if required, or to help us make adjustments on areas needing any improvisation. Celebrating milestones obviously boosts morale and reinforces positive habits. Constant reviewing and celebrating ensures us being on the track despite numerous adverse factors with a constant boost to the morale , our level of motivation and self confidence . However , how many of us actually practice this on a regular basis?

Yes, most often we all lose motivation from time to time due to which our Goal Vision get sandwiched between Goal Setting & Execution metrics. In my view, we should get adopted to Motivated mindset to achieve our desired goals both long & short term with Uncompromised Checklist which is alos duly time stamped. Reflecting on past accomplishments allows me to appreciate the effort invested, acknowledge personal growth, and boost confidence. It serves as a reminder of what I've achieved and motivates me to keep pushing forward. Additionally, reviewing progress helps me identify areas for improvement, set new goals, and plan future steps strategically. Overall, this practice contributes significantly to maintaining momentum and direction in my career journey.

Keep an open mind, and take challenges and setbacks as opportunities to learn and develop. Don't be afraid to ask questions, ask why or ask for help. I enjoy learning, and I have found the best way to continue growing in your career is to stay hungry for information and listen to your mentors and your peers.

This is the essential ingredient in any successful career. It’s easy to adopt a singular focus and believe career success can only come from an exact promotion or through a specific company or department when so often when looked at from a distance, career success can ebb and flow, unexpected things can happen, sometimes people even go backwards before they go forwards again. Being open minded, embracing alternative options, not taking set backs personally, pausing and going again all contribute to a healthy approach to career progression and growth. Being less exact in what determines career success and just enjoying the journey with all of its twists and turns is a healthy mindset to adopt.

Being flexible and agile will help you in latching on to various opportunities which can help you grow your career in an inorganic way. This will also help you to take up opportunities which you might find difficult or complex but ultimately these opportunities will teach you the most and will help you grow immensely

Its better to diverse your career too. 2-3 different industry experience is good enough to choose your best option according to your interest. More like jack of all but master of 'ONE' choice. Its also beneficial to keep yourself open to new unknown opportunities. even if you think you are not fit for the role but its worth, just do it and learn when you are working. keep the curiosity and excitement alive.

My personal favourite, stay Adapatable and Flexible to be able to face any new found challenges. Adapting to changing eco systems helped giraffes face evolution challenges and survive. And the non-adaptation by mighty dinosaurs wiped them out. Being flexible paves way for new skills. Acquiring new skills provides competitive edge to stay relevant. Staying relevant is the ultimate paradigm of survival skills. Choice is ours, either be a mighty dinosaur and get wiped out or be an adaptable giraffe and survive.

Dont lose focus - it is easy to shuffle your priorities and inadvertently move career progression down the list. Life happens, but a holistic approach to having your priorities as main focus helps to keep you on the path for a successful career. Be your own cheerleader and take joy in small milestones in your career journey; as every effort, every success contributes to a fulfilling career.

“No plan survives first contact with the enemy” Whilst its important to have a clear goal in mind, also recognize when you may need to tweak, or deviate in order to succeed. Sometimes you have to move sidewards in order to move upwards (think snakes and ladders!)

One thing that I have found useful is to stay flexible and more importantly adaptable. Change is a part of life and everyone has to encounter at some point in their professional life/career. This trait will help you to re-calibrate your goal/s and may also open new doors.

Growth comes with discomfort. So, expert the nerves and allow the process. It is when the inner doubt kicks in that we lose focus as the obvious option is to go back to familiarity thus removing the discomfort. Therefore, when you are nervous or similar emotions are running take it as a reminder that you are doing exactly what you need to in order to achieve your goals - so stay focused and on course. This is assuming that the goals, while SMART are as big as they should be.

As I tell the teams I coach, just focus on what you can control. Continue to build your skills, stick with your plan on tactics and keep moving forward. Looking in the rear view mirror or focusing too much on your intrusive thoughts only distracts you from aiming to meet your target objectives.

Improving your workplace relationships starts with a simple connection—showing interest in a coworker, sharing a piece of yourself and building from there.

Engaging with a Mentor A mentoring relationship is key to keeping you on track and helping you think outside the box. In my experience that’s really important to becoming a well rounded leader.

Ensure goals are aligned to the mission and purpose of your organization. Disengagement can easily occur when an employee doesn’t see how there goals help the organization fulfill its larger vision. When employees feel connected, your organization can achieve greatness.

In addition to the above steps, after setting a SMART goal, find meaning and purpose. Connect your career aspirations to your personal values and passions. When your work aligns with what matters most to you, you’re more likely to stay motivated and focused. Reflect on how your contributions make a difference and seek out opportunities that resonate with your values. For example, if you have a passion for finance and real estate, you might find fulfillment in a career as a financial advisor specialising in real estate investments. In my opinion, the six ways listed to help you stay motivated and focused on your career goals are all essential and ideal. However, not everyone has the privilege to access some or all of them. Let's consider a scenario where you are still figuring out your career path; therefore, setting a SMART goal may be difficult for you. Not everyone has the opportunity to receive constructive feedback and the right support from their leaders and colleagues to help them improve.
