Remote work has changed our lives. If recently it was the only way out, now in my opinion its importance is greatly exaggerated. Many teams have encountered problems in teams, and each participant sees their own work process, deadlines, and results. The main causes of conflicts are lack of transparency and different time zones. There is a simple solution — regular and clear communication, but regular online meetings will help the team and can prevent possible conflicts. But what if there is a 5, 8 or 10 hour difference? I think it is possible to minimize the risks of conflicts to the remote team, but the solution will only be to minimize remote work.

We need to understand what expectations are clashing first. Like availability, communication style, priorities, accountability gaps, response time, perceived inequality, performance evaluation, collaboration etc. Once you have zeroed down on the root cause, you can define mandatory overlap hours for collaboration and get consensus. Priorities can be well managed if you are in Agile framework through Agile or Kanban board and having SOS or DSU everyday or hosting weekly or bi weekly calls for alignment. That would also take care of accountability conflicts and you can also manage a simple To Do list for leadership team members. It is advisable to communicate expectations of response times based on criticality of tasks ahead of time.
