Creating a culture of safety means making safety THE priority. One of my go to questions for my students is "What is the most valuable in this room?" They usually say the lab equipment and I tell them "It's you. Everything here can be replaced. You cannot." People are more important than any experiment or outcome. When I went on a volunteer trip with my university to California, there was a utility company we toured that had portraits of employees families and pets and the sign said "The reason for you to be safe."
