How do you create and share your leadership vision?

To engage your team and stakeholders in your vision, focus on simplifying their purpose. You need to answer the question: why do we exist? Once you’ve created 3-5 core values that align with your vision, have each person in your team create a personal ‘why’ that aligns. Finally, use this purpose as the foundation for all decision-making.

Propósito virou algo cliche demais últimamente, infelizmente virou muito blá blá blá e pouca ação. Minha dica aqui seria criar um cenário onde seu time pode ser a melhor versão de si mesmos. Se o seu time entender que você é o "trampolim" que vai alavancar- los para o próximo nível da carreira deles e que você tem interesse genuino pelo sucesso e bem estar de cada um deles. Esquece... you win! Não existe time que não dê seu sangue, suor e lágrimas para um líder que tem seus interesses individuais realmente em primeiro lugar. Simples assim. Sirva, e o resto se resolve sozinho.

In essence, your purpose is your unique imprint on the professional landscape. It answers why you lead and how you influence those around you. A clear, concise, and compelling purpose becomes the bedrock upon which a legacy of impactful leadership is built.

I think it goes beyond just defining your purpose and actually living it day in and day out. Consistently being able to SHOW your purpose becomes contagious and then it is far easier for team members to engage, lean into and subscribe to joining the journey.

La visión es lo más importante para lograr definir un propósito. La pasión que nos mueve. Siempre les propongo a los participantes de mis talleres que piensen cómo quieren ser recordados en el futuro. Qué huella quieren dejar en las personas con las que trabajen. Esta imagen del final de sus carreras permite agregar las emociones de logro; de completud y de huella al ejercicio. Cuando los participantes pueden delinear estas preguntas el plan de acción que armen estará sustentando por esta aspiración, que si bien puede parecer utópica, es inspiradora. Actúa como dijo el maestro Eduardo Galeano como la línea del horizonte. El horizonte se aleja mientras uno camina hacia él. Pero es justamente lo que nos pone a caminar. El propósito es eso.

𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀: Identify and articulate your core values and principles, ensuring they align with your leadership vision and serve as the foundation for your purpose. 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: Establish specific, achievable goals that reflect your vision and provide a roadmap for what you aim to accomplish as a leader. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Focus on how your vision will positively impact your team, organisation, and stakeholders, creating a compelling purpose that motivates and engages others.

why do you exist as a leader? If your mission is to promote sustainable practices, your purpose might be: “To lead initiatives that reduce environmental impact and inspire others to adopt eco-friendly habits.: If your passion is education, your purpose might be: “To empower individuals through accessible and innovative learning opportunities, fostering a culture of continuous growth and development.”

Imagine your desired outcome and chart a roadmap to get there. Goals happen to be that roadmap for you. Create 3 top goals (no more!) and add 1-3 measurable outcomes for each.

Begin by reflecting on your long-term goals and aspirations for your team or organization. Imagine the future state you wish to achieve and consider the positive impact your leadership can have. Envision success by visualizing specific outcomes, achievements, and the desired state of your team or organization. This imaginative exercise helps you clarify your goals and provides a foundation for your leadership vision. Take into account the impact on various stakeholders, including team members, customers, and the broader community. A well-rounded vision considers the needs and aspirations of all relevant parties. Create a visual picture of it and than turn it into a compelling statement, take expert help to ensure you do it right.

Values are your cultural DNA. To align your vision with your values, ensure that they are easy to remember and impactful. Try to limit your core values to 3-5 and make them as actionable as possible. Stay away from cliched generic terms like ‘teamwork’ if possible. Dig deep.

Clearly define your core values as a leader. Your vision should align closely with these values to ensure authenticity and a sense of purpose. Values serve as the guiding principles that shape your leadership approach. Integrate your values into your vision statement. Consider how your leadership vision reflects the principles that are most important to you and that you want to instill within your team or organization. Ensure that your vision is sustainable and aligned with ethical considerations. A vision rooted in strong values is more likely to withstand challenges and garner support from others.

Your vision is a picture of what you want to achieve, and it provides you with a sense of purpose and direction. Your values are the principles and beliefs that guide your actions and decisions. When you align your vision with your values, you are essentially saying that you are committed to achieving your vision in a way that is consistent with your values. For example, LinkedIn's vision was to "create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce. " This vision aligns with the company's commitment to helping individuals connect with opportunities, develop their careers, and achieve economic success.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸: Ensure that your leadership vision is consistent with your personal and organisational values, reinforcing the principles you stand for. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: Embed your core values into the strategic goals and objectives of your vision, making them a central part of the direction you are setting. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Clearly communicate how your vision aligns with these values, helping your team understand the connection and fostering a sense of shared purpose.

Articulate your vision in a clear and concise statement. Your vision should be easy to understand and memorable, allowing others to grasp the essence of your leadership direction. Use compelling and inspiring language to convey your vision. Choose words that evoke emotion and passion, making it easier for others to connect with and rally behind your leadership goals. Utilize storytelling techniques to illustrate your vision. Share anecdotes or examples that bring your vision to life, making it more relatable and engaging for your team members. Communicate your vision with confidence. Confidence in your words and demeanor instills trust and conviction in others. Be authentic and articulate your vision across organizational levels.

When Elon Musk first started Tesla, he leaked a slide that laid out the vision in a simple yet powerful manner. Based on my experience leading 250+ people, you can communicate your vision with clarity and confidence using the ‘one-four approach’’(one slide, 4 sentences). Create a one-slide presentation titled “Our Strategic Vision”. The next 4 sentences should talk about your 3-year, 5-year, 10-year, and 20-year goals.

Primero hay que recordar que la gente no sigue a la visión, te sigue a ti como líder. La gente no ve lo que tú ves, sólo te ve a ti. Tú eres el mensaje, tú eres la visión. Por otro lado a la hora de verbalizar la visión, hay tres cosas a recordar: 1) Comunicarla de forma creativa. 2) Repetirla de forma general por todos los canales disponibles. 3) Reforzarla de forma individual con cada interacción que tengan con el líder. La visión debe ir ligada con la identidad social del equipo. Uno de los mejores ejemplos fue el de Steve Jobs cuando estableció la visión de derrotar a IBM, entonces le dijo a su gente que ellos eran "piratas" y los piratas eran los únicos con el suficiente coraje de enfrentarse a los buques de la realeza.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Share your vision openly and frequently, using various communication channels to ensure everyone understands and feels connected to the vision. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲: Use storytelling and real-life examples to illustrate your vision, inspiring and motivating your team and stakeholders to commit to and work towards the shared goals.

La visión por naturaleza tiene un carácter inspirador, y las inspiración vive en el "aire" y necesita un cable a tierra, ese cable a tierra es el cómo de la visión. el 12 de septiembre de 1962 el presidente John Kennedy establecía la visión de llegar a la luna antes de culminar la década. Lo interesante es que ese día no solo dijo eso sino que trató de dar la mayor cantidad de detalles para que no se percibiera como un ideal, una idea inspiradora y nada más. Aparte de esto, se cuenta que en una reunión en la NASA, el presidente preguntó ¿qué significa el éxito de esta misión? -El hombre en la luna, le respondieron. -No, dijo él. -El éxito es pisar la luna y los astronautas sanos y salvo en la tierra. ¡Planifiquemos desde allí!
