In my experience as a singer, songwriter and voice coach, when a singer is skilled at using a variety of colorful tones, they have the ability to tap into the emotions of their listeners and help the song’s message to be understood and relatable. I believe the best song ballads were by singers that did it best. A well written song with a beautiful melody that connects us to our feelings, can heal, motivate and change the world and therefore that’s where most of my time and effort goes when coaching singers. It’s that important.

My experience as a reason producer. The average consumer can't really tell you why they like a song All they know is they like it. It's the dynamics of the song that captures them more than they think. Think of it like five different people in one room trying to deliver a message. The dynamic between all five people plays a part of how the message is delivered. Same with music. There is a dynamic between instrument parts, vocals parts, what is played, when it's played and how it's played. The same goes for vocals! How do you create a dynamic for all these things to communicate with each other without overload AKA over producing. The great Quincy Jones told me Just because something is silent doesn't mean it doesn't belong.

The most important aspect of song creation is the message, then delivery, then dynamics. If we neglect a great message in a song, then it's entertainment, which provides a comfort or resource for specific moments. If we combine, message and entertainment together the dynamics will stand out to the listener, people only really listen when your really saying something. Dynamics are deep in th detail, from vocal arragement to instrumentation all the way to simple inflection and depth in the tone and voice. Dynamics is one of the main creation varients that all songs demand, the variant is totally dependent on the inspiration of the singer, writer and composers. Dynamics is the biggest shot in the dark, when it comes to song creation.

Dynamics come from what you are feeling when you write the song. Planning dynamics is not a bad thing but there is a chance you may get writers block. I can't remember when I ever wrote a song on actual paper. Atlantic Records signed us because our content was, "dynamically sound" (Hank Caldwell). He felt what we were rapping about.
