How can you prioritize your values as an entrepreneur?

Values are the base of your identity and as an entrepreneur your values individually will reflect in your business practices. Hence, Values are like a moral compasses or headlights in the vehicles. It will eventually move you forward or backwards based on your values. So I always make sure that I live by values. because people can now predict your behavior and if it aligns with their value then that will collaborate & cooperate easily with you. Following your values are the easiest way to create genuine & reliable partnership in business ecosystem.

Those who are anchored in wisdom of the heart have a tendency to recognize the intangible wealth that aligning values within for an overflowing into others in accomplishing more. The pruning process often tests the anchoring of one prior to being in positions to lead others and support legacy impact for those one comes in contact with. The ups and downs of the proving grounds that entrepreneurship will test can reveal how much one values this prioritization. There is a visionary aspect that comes in continually moving a company forward and those can come with moments in solitude that will seek to damper one with doubts and fears. Focusing on this value system to manage stress and gain clarity can be vital to ones mental health as well.

As an entrepreneur, your values are like your North Star they guide your path. First, figure out what matters most to you ,integrity, creativity, or other personal values. Share these values loud and clear. Make them part of your brand and how you do business. Let everyone , your team and customers know what you stand for.But yes , stay flexible. As you grow, your values might evolve. It's about adapting without losing what's at your core.alues aren't just words, its a compass that keeps you on track.

It's important for the long game because it ensures your actions align with your beliefs and principles. It promotes integrity and builds trust with customers, employees, and stakeholders. It's going to be harder to finish the race if your values are not aligned with your actions. So, prioritze them carefully and intentionally.

Actions speak louder than words. If you want to figure out your actual values, you'll have to take this simple but brave step: Test your values. It's hard to admit, but sometimes we have values that are not really ours: they are someone else's values (peers, parents, society) that have been inculcated through years of repetition. A cuckoo in our mind's nest. For an entrepreneur, not defining your own values can be disastrous: as a founder you're going to be in high pressure situations where hesitation can be fatal. When push comes to shove, you better know where you stand. Therefore, I recommend ripping off the bandaid right away. Put yourself in tough situations early, search your soul, find out where your true values lie.

For every venture you begin create 3 reasons you’re designing a new product, service, or company. Those reasons serve as your guiding values - remember not to focus on metrics for this exercise. It’s not all about your ARR (annualized recurring revenue), those metrics are easy to track - but your purpose forms your values. Invest time in figuring out WHY your building, that is where you’ll find your values - the HOW will come easily

Once you have identified your top 10 values and their significance to your vision and goals, it is important to integrate them into your daily life. This can be done by aligning your actions and decisions with these values. For example, if one of your top values is "creativity," you can make a conscious effort to incorporate creativity into your work projects or personal hobbies. By actively living your values, you are more likely to feel fulfilled and satisfied in your life, as you are spending time and energy on things that truly matter to you.

Identifying values involves using a values list, a compilation of words representing various life aspects. Start by selecting resonant words, narrow down to the top 10, and rank or categorize them. Articulate why each value is significant, drawing from past experiences or future aspirations. This process provides a clear understanding of personal values and their alignment with vision and goals.

If there are no customers, there wouldn't be any product or service. So, values in context of your organization are derived from the customers needs and your product/services tailored around. The values may change along with the changing world as the technology is filling the gap making alterations to the needs of the customers. Values should be assessed with the exponential growing technology, its effects in the behavior of the people living on this planet and its effect on the ecosystem around (PESTLE - Political, economical, sociological, technological, legal and environmental). Any change in the ecosystem can make and break the value effecting the product and services directly. Hence, evaluation of values needs should be frequently.

As a business person, think about what makes you want to do it. Match these things with your company's vision & mission and keep making choices that show just how important they are to you. Often check and change to make sure they help you grow better.

I would add that this should be a collaborative process. You need to ask your team and clients what values they see in your business, because that’s what really matters.

What are "Values"? They are expressed with nouns or, better, with nominalizations. You must think of them as the different names given to pills that are considered the most beneficial for us. When you take a pill, you feel deeply good. Each pill is a mix of active principles. And what are these active principles? Our most constructive and beneficial behaviors. So, how do you choose these pills? Think about the worst illnesses, traumas, and crises you want to avoid and associate with them the antagonist remedy! Then, define your rules of behavior, i.e., the most effective active principles. This is the way to create effective and value-based organizations.

Define and articulate your personal and core values. May include integrity, innovation, sustainability, or other important to you. Ensure that the business goals and strategies align with your core values. Reflect on how these values can guide your business decisions and operations.

I was recently talking to a client who is having problems with the organisation and efficiency of his team. He didn't know exactly what his priorities were, so I suggested he look at his calendar and he would get a clear picture of what his priorities were. What you spend the most time on is your priority, whether you want it or not. Of course, he did not like looking at the calendar because there were a lot of "wasteful" activities. Reorganising the calendar in line with strategic priorities gave him more efficiency.

By making a matrix (table) of the identified values, their impact and contribution towards the big picture of the future and the ease of achieving the values by instituting systems will be handy in setting the priorities. While implementing the system to achieve the value it is important to assess along the ecosystem around (PESTLE - Political, economical, sociological, technological, legal and environmental) whether it supports or obstructs the value implementations. The higher the impact of a value having ease of instituting systems for tis implementation and the more are the ecosystem favorable conditions, the higher will be the priority of that value.

By consistently aligning your actions with your values, you will not only have a clearer sense of purpose and direction, but you will also feel more fulfilled and satisfied with your choices. It is important to regularly review and reassess your values, as they may evolve over time. As you grow and change, your priorities and what brings you joy may shift, and it is crucial to be in tune with these changes. By regularly evaluating your values, you can ensure that you are making decisions that are true to who you are and what you want to achieve.

Once the top 10 values are identified, entrepreneurs can prioritize actions and decisions by regularly reviewing and keeping them visible. There are many channels for communicating your values, including social media, interviews, networking events, and more. No matter the channel, if the message is not personal then it won't be transformational or world-class. So, share your personal experiences and wisdom openly. It's the most powerful way to convey your values and your firm's cultural values authentically to a large audience. Now, if your venture has already generated ample traction, then align its operations with external programs and activities that reflect your values. That's a force multiplier. Do that consistently and it will make a reliable and lasting impact across boundaries, build trust with customers, and inspire stakeholders to support your firm.

By establishing and practicing them in your own life first… Values are strongest and organically enmesh within company culture when practice precedes preaching.

When my co-founder and I created our company values we realized that those values were deep inside our souls of who we were as people. We wanted our company to reflect, live and breathe these values. They were not made up but an extension of us. It’s easy to talk about and remind the team of these values because they are an extension of the leadership. Our hiring process incorporates our core values (customer commitment, teamwork, integrity, passion, & quality). Often I think about writing a doctrine so these core values out live us as co-founders. Values are critical for setting the tone of a company. ♥️

Leaders don’t necessarily have to be rude or snobbish. I believe in kindness and forgiveness as key leadership skills. Although I’ve faced challenges with people abusing my good intentions, I let them go from my startup and focused on onboarding those who fit into the culture we’re creating. One of my colleagues once told me that if I were angrier and tougher on people, they would listen to me more. As a leader, I listen to every piece of feedback but only implement what contributes positively to me and my team. A few months later, I came across a speech by Jacinda Ardern, who expressed similar views as mine. My point is, values are important in leadership. You can revisit them, but don’t try to adopt something you don’t believe in.

Action speaks louder than words. It is extremely important that as and when you take any decision; you stay true to the values you have set for the company. Vision, mission and values is what drives an organization and it is extremely important that you repeat them often in your townhalls and internal meetings to the point where everyone in the company remembers them so that whenever they have to take a decision they keep those values at the core of servicing any customer.

Sie sind unser innerer Kompass, Leitplanken, der rote Faden in unserem Handeln. Wir wählen Werte nicht bewusst aus, vielmehr wird unser Werteset durch unsere Erfahrungen, Erziehung und Interaktionen geprägt - und das seit Beginn unseres Lebens. So ist im Laufe des Lebens eine Verschiebung möglich, aber eine 180-Grad-Wende bei Werten wird es sehr selten geben. Und das ist das Schöne: Niemand kann uns seine Werte aufzwingen - das merkt man an Beziehungen am Arbeitsplatz oder auch im privaten Bereichs sehr gut.
