Regarding Step 2. Yes we need to model input/event/output. But it is most critical to remember that there are two ways of doing such. The first - and by far the most common way - is to use a reductionist approach to come up with a bunch of events (often using Post-It notes, one per event) and then we try to contrive interrrelationships. Because the interrelationships are contrived,there is no logical, natural flow and the end result looks like a bowl of spaghetti - basically unusable The second way is to follow the flow of inputs as they naturally split and combine to form outputs. At each point of split/combine, we have discovered an essential event. The result is a much smoother flow - much more usable. ,
