How can interdisciplinary care teams promote health equity for marginalized populations?
Health equity is the fair and just distribution of health resources and outcomes among different groups of people, regardless of their social, economic, or geographic status. Marginalized populations, such as racial and ethnic minorities, low-income individuals, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ people, and refugees, often face multiple barriers to accessing quality health care and achieving optimal health. How can interdisciplinary care teams, composed of professionals from different disciplines and sectors, promote health equity for these groups? In this article, we will explore some of the benefits and challenges of interdisciplinary care teams, and how they can use systems engineering tools and methods to design and implement effective and inclusive health interventions.
