I agree that it is likely a generic question that doesn’t quite fit for the theatrical industry. If you’re talking about an institutional position in a theatre, a regular resume is the standard and I’ve seen some great websites collecting work samples as well. For a production, there isn’t a boss that you’re appealing to and you should collect your work samples in whatever makes sense for your role - mostly photos, but be sure to include any press clippings as well.

Wait there is a "Boss" in the Theatre Community? I must not have met him or her yet then. I do believe that it is key for all to keep one's skills showcased. We can do this through a multitude of ways. Actors typically use reels, Designers use portfolios, Directors and others use website; These are not exclusive to each area. We all should be trying to utilize as many tools that are available to us to grow in our areas of focus. What will you choose to showcase yourself?

One thing I found helpful is effective knowing all parts of theater and/or film, and how it has greatly affected my craft for the better. By knowing how things work can give you better understanding of how to make a scene better.

I do believe that a great toolkit can take you far, but it's equally important to show up and be there in the right moment. It's a crucial part of the industry to have great timing. Don't be discourage if you don't have everything that it is in your being to make it, sometimes it's just showing up for the right project.

Example of this I’ve seen is where an actor put their heart & soul into a roll and yet they didn’t receive the credit that they felt that they deserved. So encourage those around you that are trying their best by giving them positive encouragement.

Once I was in an audition as a producer and the director wanted a specific fisic du roll. A girl comes in and she was almost the same girl as our references, we liked how she reacted to the script and once she left we all together said that she deserved a second chance. We almost knew we had it. A second girl comes in, and she reacted to the script even better, but she didn't look like the girl we were searching. Before she leaves, she just said a comment to our team of actors that were helping in the audition, one of the actors answered, and then she decided to sing, and then the actor replied signing too. We asked her if she could sing along with all the crew. She got he part: She just bucked up and gave herself a second chance.

Realistically my first piece of advice to anybody starting in Theatre and events is work hard. It sounds really simple but the amount of work that you will pick up because you are hard working is unbelievable and people will remember you for it. I agree picking up skills and qualifications is a great way to help your work flow and diversify but first off be hard working the rest comes in time and as a side effect of that.
