It is important to understand our role in the team. It will define our attitude in the discussion as far as the whole process is concern. Share among others in the team the principle of communication. Why are we doing it. Send the message- what is the purpose of the meeting. Time- provide a period for them to prepare for their views. Managing the discussion well, gather all ideas, get the most relevant things related to the purpose and agree on the outcome of the discussion.

Over-communicate. There are so many sales leaders who do not know how to maximize the time in sales meetings. The meetings become redundant and boring. Use part of your sales meetings (not all) as an opportunity to share communication and information. When I was a General Manager, I made sure our game day staffing knew what was going on. We communicate with everyone. The more our staff knows, the more they feel included, and the more engaged they feel.

When anyone provides an idea, they're demonstrating some level of vulnerability. How their ideas are received will determine if they continue to present those ideas in the future. Ensuring that ideas are treated with respect ensures that ideas will continue to presented. More ideas means more opportunities to discover one that makes all the difference.

In my opinion, listening and providing a safe space for people to express their ideas is only a part of the process. When ideas are not taken into consideration or dealt with accordingly, people will inevitably stop providing them. Making sure people share ideas is one thing, utilizing those ideas is another. Personally, when my opinion matters and my ideas are a catalyst in any change, then I’m inspired and motivated to continue sharing. Dont dry out people’s ideas for the sake of dialog and communication but utilize them instead! 😎

Provide spaces/set up for communication. Whether it’s events (I.e team retreats) or monthly meetings or even dinners. In addition, I think it is also important to share each and everyone’s ways of communicating, expectations, strengths and weaknesses, so that people have a better understanding of how to manage relationships among themselves, and how others can better support you.
