Here's how you can efficiently manage and allocate resources in Theatrical Production.

Make sure your right hand person is a fantastic production manager. I never start a new large scale project without someone who knows their way around the technical area and is competent to advise what can and cannot be achieved AND how to make fantastic things happen. All the other areas of production of course require high value competencies but in my experience it is a creative, knowledgeable, experienced production manager that always enables the magic to happen.

The only way to build a system of budgeting is to fully understand what expenses there can be, define the experience provided by each expense, and then to create a prioritized list of experience for each production When it comes to an 'event' the sky is the limit for expenses, you can have balloon animal clowns roaming around, but do you pay by the hour or per balloon used in the animals? If you need a lighting rig for your stage do you pay by the wattage, weight, material? If x,y, and z fail on the day of the event, how much will it cost to punt? Knowing what value each expense provides: If your target demographic skews older than 50 then quality seating becomes a higher priority than a "thumpy" sound system Ultimately its up to your taste

Definitely! Many people may have Talents; But if we can't know how utilize and enhance it it is nothing. Some people can't understand how how they are great. For instance, the genius Director or Theatre producer should cultivate such like talents.

Meetings. Meetings where every department is in the same room at the same time. Meetings where "stupid" ideas and dreams are encouraged. Have a meeting as soon as you know who each department head is for that production. The most important part of resource sharing is knowing what resources are available, but sometimes its knowing how a resource can be applied requires someone who works with it regularly. Doing a show set in the 70's my prop department thought they would need to design a wireless handheld mic from scratch because they didn't know that not only were they introduced in 1953, but I had access to some functional 1970's era wireless handheld mics.

The skills that they develop in the roles of Student Technical Director and Student Assistant Technical Director are invaluable for them as they continue their learning beyond high school, whether it be in theatre or other areas! We couldn't run our theatre without our Student Theatre Technicians!
