For me the best time is when I have my weekly 1 on 1 with my boss. This time is reserved for my topics and needs. If you don’t have a weekly or bi-weekly 1 on 1, set up a time and maybe think about if it makes sense to implement a reoccurring meeting in your calendars. I would say, when it comes to timing, you should also consider to not wait too long until you talk to your boss. Don’t let feelings build up but also don’t react in a moment of emotions. Let it sit for a day or two, reflect before addressing your needs calmly.
