As an ER physician, ensuring sustainable decision-making despite the push for quick wins involves balancing immediate needs with long-term outcomes. For example, prescribing antibiotics might quickly satisfy a patient, but overuse risks resistance. Instead, I assess if antibiotics are truly necessary, educate the patient, and choose treatments that won't compromise future health. Communicating the "why" behind decisions helps align the team towards sustainable care, even under pressure. Focus on root solutions, not just instant fixes—prioritize patient education and evidence-based protocols to maintain quality care.

You can implement dynamics that connect the team with the company's purpose and vision, promoting both individual and collective commitment. I do this through transformative questions that guide reflection and align efforts: 1. What does the organizational purpose represent for us and how can we live it in our daily tasks? 2. How does my role contribute to the achievement of strategic objectives? 3. What personal goals can I set that align with the long-term vision of the organization? 4. How can I develop my skills to add extraordinary value? 5. What concrete actions can I take to strengthen my team and the organization? Ask your team the right questions and extraordinary results will come💡

Quick wins are always tempting and expect quick rewards too. At the same time it is vulnerable to unhealthy competition within the team. Unless you've very clearly defined metrics to measure the performance, it could result in compromising quality of individual performances that could cause external damage which may or may not be detected immediately. While a stringent mechanism to check the consistency in quality is mandatory, wins have to be split: Short term rewarded with Recognitions. Long term with Monetary rewards. That keeps the team motivated to keep the eye on the ball as well as the goal.
-
Quick wins are crucial for keeping teams motivated and focused on the long-term vision. However, long-term goals must be clearly communicated and understood by the team (having a clear understanding of the organization's strategic direction) to ensure effective management.

I start by aligning the team on broader goals, showing how sustainable decisions contribute to lasting results. For example, I encourage discussions on potential risks of short-term fixes, such as technical debt or client dissatisfaction. I also use data to illustrate the benefits of a long-term approach, like improved efficiency or stronger customer relationships. By balancing immediate needs with future outcomes, I guide the team toward decisions that ensure both short-term progress and long-term stability.

Ensuring sustainable decision-making in a team that's focused on quick wins requires a strategic approach that balances short-term goals with long-term vision. Here are some strategies to encourage sustainable decision-making: Align Quick Wins with Long-Term Goals Clear Vision: Ensure the team's short-term efforts align with broader, long-term objectives. Help them see how quick wins can contribute to the overall strategic direction, rather than just being isolated victories. Set Milestones: While quick wins are often urgent, create milestones that lead to a more significant, sustainable outcome. For example, a quick win could be a step in a larger project or a small victory that builds towards a larger, more impactful result.
-
Do ensure consistent and long term decision-making across teams, it's important to collaboratively set goals, performance metrics, and reporting frequencies.

Quick wins are great, but sustainable success requires aligning decisions with long-term goals. Empower your team to think beyond immediate results and focus on creating lasting value.
