We did this when I worked at E!. First step was a multi-day intensive training course on the new software. The next step was to ensure that all the packaging elements (titles, graphics, music, etc.) were converted over to the new system and that they functioned without issue. Then, we began work on promos and less critical projects, making sure workflow was seamless. Simultaneously, the team took old textless show masters we might need and brought them into the new system so we had access to them. Finally, once everyone was satisfied with the workflow and the results of the less critical projects, we transitioned fully to the new system, and barring a few anticipated growing pains, the transition was successful.
