To decompress after a stressful day, start by creating a calming environment — dim lights, soothing music, or aromatherapy can help. Engage in mindful breathing or meditation to center yourself. Physical activity, like a brisk walk or yoga, relieves tension. Journaling can help process thoughts, while reading or watching something uplifting distracts the mind. Connecting with loved ones or playing with pets provides emotional support. A warm bath or shower aids relaxation, and sipping herbal tea can be soothing. Lastly, ensure a good night's sleep by unwinding an hour before bedtime, avoiding screens, and practicing gratitude. Tailor these strategies to what brings you joy and calm, ensuring balance and self-care in your routine.

There are different kinds of stress, each requiring a different response to regenerate. The rule of thumb? Do the opposite. - After a day of sitting (a bad thing)—move. - After a day in front of the screen—go out in nature, with your phone tucked at the bottom of your bag or backpack. - After a day of felling trees—stretch and lie down. - After a day working alone—meet someone who energises you. - After a day among too many people and chaos—have a quiet, meditative evening. Even a relaxing movie, but without scrolling on your phone at the same time. Do the opposite! P.S. The exception to the rule? If you haven’t been drinking whole day. Don’t drink.

Unwinding after a stressful day is crucial for our mental health and wellbeing. Stress release techniques depend on the type of stress, however a general approach could include spending time in a calming environment (relaxing music, dimmed lights, comfortable sitting), focusing on breathing, meditating or reading a book. A yoga session, a walk outside or other activities we enjoy would be beneficial to our physical health if we have spent our day sitting. It is crucial to become aware of our stress and be mindful in every strategy we follow.

The first step is to disconnect. Ensure you've unplugged and take a few minutes to fully disengage your mind from work. This could be driving the scenic way home from work, singing along with the radio, or going for a longer walk with the dog as soon as you log off. You may need to do a brain dump before you head out for the day so lingering incomplete tasks or issues aren't pulling you back into work-mode. Without this step, your stress can bleed into your interactions with others at home and impair your choices. For example, you may be impatient or short. Or decide to crash on the couch with a mixed drink. Then, be present in the moment to enjoy your evening with loved ones doing healthy, relaxing (or recharging) activities you love.

I’ve found that combining deep breathing with a short evening walk works wonders—fresh air and mindfulness are a great pair! For me dancing is a big way to reduce stress by focusing my energy on something fun!
