I suggest determining what is the exact client need that requires attention now and take care of it. It shouldn't be the whole project. If the client insists that it is the whole project, you have a choice to make... allow the client to prioritize your work or get rid of the client. Hopefully the need is something that popped up unexpectedly and not a usual occurance. Even in that situation, make sure the client understands that taking care of an urgent need isn't the norm and not to expect you to jump through hoops. This is about respect, care, and understanding from both sides. May that be the kind of relationship you cultivate with all clients.
