One of my favorite things to do is to ensure open communication—I prefer to meet regularly and have scheduled check-ins to keep industrial designers and engineers in the loop. This way, both departments are aligned during the whole process, which helps us deal with the situation in time, and keep the design on track. Of course there are some conflicts but with these meetings we receive immediate feedback that let us quickly address where the balance lies to meet both aesthetic and functional goals.

A cross-functional team is definitely an essential foundation. What was very helpful in my experience would be bring in marketing, user experience, and customer insights into the conversation helps align the team toward a clear, shared goal.
