Understand the needs of your user and marry the form to the function. Assess the use cases in which the vehicle needs to perform and design the user experience with that in mind. Avoid scope creep and focus on your target demographic. Understand your powertrain and design the vehicle for power, range, longevity, or some combination thereof. Allow space between components for repair and longevity, following engineering best practices. Choose a blend of materials that are not labor intensive and allow for the best packaging. Avoid relying on technology to bolster the user experience in the absence of actual design thought. Instead, use technology only when it is necessary and omit technology when able. Provide delight through refinement.

In my view, materials are a matrix of attributes, and selecting the best material for each car component is like solving set of complex equations. By choosing the right material for specific working conditions, we can address many of the long-term challenges that cars face. The right material ensures that vehicles remain safe and reliable from the moment of purchase and sustain their performance over time, leading to higher customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, during cost evaluations, designers sometimes overlook the significant impact that dissatisfied customers can have on the company, its brand, and even the reputation of the country that produces the product.

While new technologies are appealing, I believe there should be stricter regulations for their use and testing. Although there are regulations for vehicles on the road, they may not be enough to ensure long-term safety, particularly in extreme cold or hot weather conditions. I think each country's regulatory bodies should collect long-term customer satisfaction data and share these insights with the UN ECE. This would help address potential long-term risks associated with innovative technologies, ultimately leading to safer and more reliable vehicles on the road.
