The technology solutions are relatively easy to calculate cost effectiveness. The human interventions which save money are harder to implement/quantify, but can be a real point of difference from competitors. Education as to the value of fuel savings, the decisions which affect fuel burn, information to fully inform the decision makers, empowering key staff to influence operations to improve fuel burn. This is all possible when there is trust between the management and those managed - without that trust, individual decision makers can damage the fuel saving efforts of the business.

What we have seen is that new engine technology is less reliable. (Think NEO vs CEO and LEAP vs CFM56). But the real answer is better all round connected thinking. The result is that better route planning can yield a lot better results. Single engine taxi and other mitigation solutions can bring further value. Look internally first before deploying big alternative high cost solutions.

Implementing real-time flight data analysis through advanced avionics improves route optimization, reducing fuel burn by up to 5%. Aircraft equipped with winglets or sharklets enhance aerodynamics, cutting fuel consumption by 4-6%. Utilizing AI-driven load and fuel planning systems ensures accurate weight distribution, aligning the center of gravity with the ideal TOMAC (Take-Off Mean Aerodynamic Chord) range, which can enhance fuel efficiency by 3-4%. Additionally, lightweight materials in cabin and cargo areas reduce overall weight, and electric taxiing systems can save up to 2% of fuel. These measures, combined with meticulous load sheet accuracy, maximize efficiency and reduce emissions.
