This is table stakes: Ask what metric they are held accountable for and what their company cares about right now. Share yours as well. If you are not aligned (ie. one is focused on retaining customers, and you are focused on net new acquisition with no real joint-value proposition)... then it is not a partnership. Plain and simple. You NEED to tie everything back to individual KPIs and overarching company goals - specifically the numbers. From there, create a clear work back plan to those numbers. Numbers and data do not lie. If they are responsible for a number, and you are aligned on where you are headed, they will be motivated and you will not be on different pages.
