One thing I have found that is helpful is shopping at thrift stores for costumes. It's a fraction of the price and you can find some great stuff. It just takes a little more time and a lot more hands on to complete as most thrift stores only have one or two items so you have to hit several to get what you need. Not the right path for everyone but if you don't mind second hand costumes then maybe it's the route to take to save that extra cost without sacrificing the quality.
