I'm not sure I agree with asking that question in the first place. Donor desires are the fundraising objectives. There is no balance and it's my opinion there shouldn't be. Donors have their own desires, the goal of the fundraiser is to listen to them, know them by heart, and connect them (without lying or falling into unethical practices) to the organization's mission and vision.
