I think most important is to be aligned with your stakeholders on the target of the strategic initiative at the beginning. Why are we doing this and what do we want to achieve. Also being clear about an aligned timeline & milestones should help - to be adapted together where necessary throughout the process. If you are not clear about their expectations in terms of details (eg KPIs) and their involvement for the milestones please ask. People are very different in this. Some could prefer a short status report others would like to have a meeting with all key functions, it's not one size fits all. Transparency is a must if it should be based on a trustful relationship. Have an opinion, listen to feedback and you will progress together.
