Leverage digital tools to streamline tracking and automate routine safety checks, reducing errors and freeing up time for more complex investigations. Regularly reviewing and refining safety processes ensures your approach stays efficient and compliant with ever-evolving standards. A continuous feedback loop with your team helps identify areas for improvement, enhancing both near-miss investigations and daily safety management.

One of the keys to maintaining harmony between daily tasks and incident investigation activities, first, is having mental strength and the courage to know that you can do both, subsequently, organizing your time and planning is the key. For example, in the morning I will carry out my daily security round while in the afternoon I will advance my pending investigations, in this way I can have harmony to carry out daily activities. Always being aware of how far you go mentally, that this is your limit. And well, something personal, I always demand a little more from myself because of the passion that my profession generates in me. Be competitive, but with myself. try to demand yourself but without demanding your mental health

Prioritization and Delegation: Categorizing tasks based on urgency and risk level helps me ensure critical issues are addressed first. Delegating routine tasks to trained team members ensures nothing is overlooked. Utilizing Digital Tools: I've had success using tools like digital checklists and safety management software. These not only streamline documentation but also provide real-time tracking of safety compliance and near-miss reporting. Engaging Teams in Continuous Improvement: Regularly reviewing safety processes with my team fosters an open culture of learning and improvement. It ensures compliance and makes our approach proactive rather than reactive.

Prioritize & Schedule: Triage near misses and set dedicated time for investigations. Streamline Investigations: Use structured methods (e.g., 5 Whys) and document clearly. Use Tech: Automate reminders and track tasks with safety software. Delegate: Share daily tasks with the team to focus on investigations. Clear Reporting: Ensure easy reporting and follow-up for actions. Review & Improve: Look for trends to refine safety practices.

An example I have seen in my experience working out in the construction field for a long time was daily human interaction of repetition in showing up with full PPE, daily morning safety meetings, step back for safety, tailgate and toolbox talks, safety awareness weeks, walking the job site daily with clipboard, and everyone on board following proper safety guidelines. A lot of near misses are complacency or hurrying to finish tasks while taking short cuts. Rewarding and praising employees. Communication, execution, repetition, ethically, and professionalism. Often jobs have different standards and really you ultimately are responsible to maintain your safety as well as your fellow person, see something, say something.

These approaches help ensure critical issues are addressed without overlooking routine responsibilities: 1. Prioritization and Delegation • By categorizing tasks based on urgency and risk level, I can focus on critical issues first. • Delegating routine tasks to trained team members ensures all safety measures are thoroughly covered. 2. Focus on Proactive Measures • Prevention plans: Use trends from near-miss investigations to adjust daily safety protocols, reducing future incidents. • Daily safety checklists: Keep routine tasks manageable by focusing on high-impact areas. 3. Engaging Teams in Continuous Improvement • Regular reviews of our safety processes as a team foster a culture of open communication and learning.
