The defination of Immediate goals is always changing and evolving. A new product and brand launch will have a good 6 months while an existing cashcow brand can have it as 15 days. The way I find It best is plan quarters and breakup into months. It's critical to keep the teams motivated by having the right sales push even if it means lower ROI, just make sure this does not affect it a lot for the long run. Maintaining the consistency for already a couple of years is the only way to get some layers of brand building. All the known brands like coke, Ford motors took decades to build but they all have and will continue to have to manage the intermediate sales goal in short term.
