Prioritizing competing requests for IT resources requires a mix of strategic thinking, communication, and decisiveness. -First, anchor decisions to organizational goals: projects tied to business-critical outcomes or compliance mandates take precedence. -Next, assess impact and urgency—prioritizing tasks that unlock value across teams or mitigate significant risks. -Transparent communication is key; I engage stakeholders early to set expectations and explain trade-offs. Leveraging frameworks like RICE or MoSCoW ensures data-driven and aligned decisions. -Monitor progress and remain flexible, knowing priorities can shift in today’s dynamic environments. The goal? Maximizing value while building trust and alignment across teams.

To prioritise and allocate competing IT resource requests effectively, I assess them based on urgency, impact on organisational goals, and resource availability. Critical tasks, such as resolving system outages or meeting compliance deadlines, take precedence. I categorize requests into high, medium, and low priority levels, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. Regular communication with stakeholders helps clarify requirements and manage expectations. I leverage project management tools to track progress and allocate resources efficiently, while maintaining flexibility to adjust priorities as new issues arise. This structured approach ensures fairness, transparency, and maximum organizational value from IT resource utilization.

1. Establish a Framework for Prioritisation Develop criteria to evaluate each request based on factors such as: Strategic Alignment: How closely does the request align with organisational goals? Impact: What are the potential benefits (e.g., revenue, customer satisfaction, or efficiency)? Urgency: What are the time-sensitive elements? Are there deadlines that must be met? Resource Availability: Does the request fit the current budget and resource constraints? 2. Categorize Requests Organise requests into categories such as: Critical: Directly impacts business continuity or compliance. High Priority: Significant impact on business operations or customer satisfaction. Medium Priority: Enhances operations but is not time-critical.

In my experience. • Define and aligned in close cooperation and collaboration with your stakeholders your time to respond and your resolution time (SLA) based on Priority Vs Business Impact matrix. Is not the same to Set up a new account in your ERP Vs the operation is not able to generate an invoice. • Provide transparency to your stakeholders in how you prioritize your resources. Resources are limited and “prioritize accordingly” is the magic behind the scenes. • Allocate your resources to ensure “business continuity”. New Projects is the cool part, however, keep the business up & running is the jewel in the crown. • Review your priorities matrix constantly & get a handshake with the business. Be flexible if a change is needed.

To prioritize competitive IT requests, it is essential to align them with the business’s strategic objectives, assessing their direct impact on the strategy, their value in terms of return on investment or operational benefits, and their urgency or criticality. Decisions should be based on objective criteria, using tools such as impact matrices and weighted scoring models, and managed transparently through an IT governance committee. Exceptions should be rigorously justified in terms of added value, always ensuring an agile approach that allows for periodic adjustments according to business needs, maintaining the balance between innovation, operations and strategic continuity.
-
-
1. Evaluate Impact & Urgency: Every request is assessed based on its potential ROI and the immediacy of its impact on operations or customers. This ensures high-value, critical tasks take precedence. 2. Align with Business Goals: IT isn't a silo. Mapping resources to strategic objectives guarantees that we’re solving problems that matter most to the business. 3. Transparent Communication: Clear, regular updates to stakeholders are key. This builds trust and ensures everyone understands the "why" behind decisions. 4. Data-Driven Decision-Making: Using metrics like cost vs. benefit or SLA adherence helps prioritize objectively rather than relying on gut instinct.

Priorização e alocação de recursos em TI exigem estratégia e equilíbrio. Três pilares me guiam nesse processo: 1. Avaliação do impacto: Analiso o valor da demanda considerando urgência e retorno comercial. 2.
