You’re interested in becoming a project manager. What’s the first step you should take?

Project manager with agile methodologies...hm! Anyway if you want to get some benefits of agility in project management, my best tips is to divide the project into independant batches. Try to avoid the tunnel effect for a too long period of time.

The first step is to gain foundational knowledge through courses like PMP or PRINCE2. Additionally, seek opportunities to lead small projects within your current role. For example, I started by coordinating a website redesign project for my team, which helped me understand project management fundamentals and gain practical experience.

This can be achieved by pursuing formal education in project management, such as obtaining a relevant degree or certification (e.g., PMP, CAPM, PRINCE2). Additionally, gaining practical experience through internships, volunteering for project-based roles, or participating in project management training programs can provide valuable insights and skills. Networking with experienced project managers and seeking mentorship opportunities can also offer guidance and support as you embark on your journey towards becoming a project manager.

Comme dans chaque chose, c’est déjà comprendre le métier , le rôle que nous souhaitons embrasser. Je ne parle pas d’attendre d’être « expert » pour se lancer 😅, comme c’est dit dans la citation Jean Rostand " ATTENDRE D’EN SAVOIR ASSEZ POUR AGIR EN TOUTE LUMIÈRE, C’EST SE CONDAMNER À L’INACTION." Alors n’attendez pas trop, c’est impossible de tout savoir, prenez l’information, former vous et foncer, c’est le terrain que le vrai apprentissage s’opère 🚀.

Primeiro passo é validar de fato o que um gerente de projetos faz, e um cargo de gestão que vai te exigir conhecimento técnico da área ,mas também skill,precisa entender se você tem o perfil de gestor, porque hoje tem muitas pessoas ocupando cargos de gestão sem ter essa habilidade.

Also understand the unpleasantness of the job. Realizing that all project management isn’t all proceses and knowledge. Talk to other project managers. Ask them what the most challenging part of their job is. Ask them what are the most frustrating. It is not worth the investment of time and money if you find out after you get it that there are parts of the job that you can’t stand.

Use your reviews. If you are getting in your reviews that you are organized and take criticism well, these are the type of traits that can align well with project management.

Attend a conference. Local PMI chapters will hold different events throughout the year. Look at these as a possible opportunity to get exposure. While they typically do cost, they also provide you with networking opportunities for further work and experience.

Use your local PMI chapter. The PMI tests have certain terminology and a way that they ask their questions. Your local PMI chapter have tutors, a lot of times for free, that help you with studying. A lot of chapters will have mock tests, study guides, and other study materials that can help.

Effective prioritization and planning are crucial for success as a project manager. By setting clear priorities, delegating non-critical tasks, collaborating with cross-functional teams, using agile methodologies, practicing good time management, regularly reviewing and adjusting, and seeking support when needed, you can fulfill your role as a project manager while managing other responsibilities effectively. A constant learning and being up to date with the current advancement in technology and industry will always help you advance in your career.

In my former experiences I believe that in addition to formal education and certifications, don't underestimate the value of informal learning opportunities and experiential learning. Embrace a growth mindset and be open to feedback, challenges, and new experiences as you navigate your journey towards becoming a successful project manager with a strong foundation in both: traditional project management principles and agile methodologies.
