Well - finger pointing and blaming starts way before an IT system failure. Of course it's important to navigate this in the critical situation itself. But what happens afterwards? In most cases the system availability, protocols etc. is checked and adjusted. But what about the working environment? In most cases "ZERO". I recommend to go exactly to the route cause of these conflicts and work on the team dynamic

During IT system failures, I prioritize calm, assign clear roles, and focus on solutions rather than blame. I mediate conflicts by fostering collaboration, encouraging team members to share insights, and conducting post-incident reviews to learn and improve future responses

Conflicts are natural in teams, especially IT teams, because of the high pressure due to demanding work, resolving problems, meeting deadlines, and responding to numerous requests from various departments in the company. I believe a good Head/CTO always needs to maintain a strong relationship with the IT team to earn their respect. After respect, good communication and providing clear guidance are equally important. Many Heads/CTOs tend to distance themselves from their IT teams because of ego or, unfortunately, a tendency to centralize decision-making. For me, it doesn’t matter what the problem is if my team listens to me, shares information, and, in challenging situations, comes together as professionals to solve issues effectively.

To resolve team conflicts during IT system failures: 1. Stay Calm and Focused: Maintain composure to lead the team effectively. 2. Clarify Roles: Reassign tasks to reduce overlap and confusion. 3. Encourage Communication: Facilitate open dialogue to identify issues and solutions. 4. Focus on the Problem: Redirect attention to resolving the system failure rather than personal disputes. 5. Conduct a Post-Mortem: After resolution, review the conflict and implement strategies to prevent recurrence.

To address team conflicts during IT system failures: Stay Composed: Lead with a calm demeanor to maintain focus and guide the team effectively under pressure. Define Roles Clearly: Assign responsibilities to eliminate confusion and ensure everyone knows their specific tasks. Foster Open Communication: Encourage team members to discuss issues constructively to uncover root causes and potential solutions. Prioritize Problem-Solving: Shift focus from personal disagreements to collaborative efforts for resolving the system failure. Review and Learn: Once the issue is resolved, hold a debrief to analyze the conflict and implement measures to prevent similar situations in the future.

Dealing with conflicts during IT system failures can be tough, but staying calm and focused really makes a difference. When the team trusts each other, it’s easier to work through stressful situations. It helps when everyone feels heard and can share their thoughts and concerns openly and respectfully. Finding the root of the problem together often leads to better solutions. Chaos engineering can also be a game-changer. By testing systems in controlled ways, teams can spot weaknesses early and feel more prepared when real issues happen.
