People buy a ticket to come laugh, yet, they sit with their arms folded and look at you with a "Make me Laugh, man!" look on their face. I'll tell you one thing - establishing credibility and rapport is to get people to TRUST and LIKE you. Agree? You know who everyone TRUSTS and LIKES more than anyone in the world? Themselves. So what we do as speakers, presenters or ... standup comedians - we enagage the audience. Bring them in to share perspectives. Ask them some sharp questions to make them feel safe and involved. Don't make it a "You" vs "Them" situation. Unite together in a mutual cause. It wins hearts.
