It is an honest to goodness opportunity to discuss performance of your employee. The point is to find ways to correct the shortcoming. Focus on the solution rather than dwelling on the problem. Have an honest and open discussion. Give specific example and be objective. Find ways to solve and improve not to highlight inefficiencies. Same my experienced about performance review. It was only given to me already signed and no discussion and to my surprised, everything written were purely unfounded and illogical. The leader must be objective in making the performance review. It is made to improve the performance.
