You're faced with actors competing for the spotlight on stage. How do you navigate the power struggles?

Watching many “soap operas” I noticed the those in starring roles depend on “walk-ons” as a springboard to the particular scene they are about to play. It adds to the drama such as a scene in Paris where there is a line of people/actors/scene assists to look through a key hole to “see their future”. It would look blah if there were no line behind the main character (in front and behind) getting ready to see his future wife. The starring role to (fake name) Tom waited in line as a build up to him getting his chance to look 👀 at her. Then he walks away to pursue his love, the woman of his dreams in real life. Tada! 🎉

Una vez hecha una imagen general del contexto en que entramos en la lucha por la atención, entonces toca trabajar en una comunicación efectiva. 1. Foco en la imagen; nuestra narrativa debe ser coherente con la imagen que proyectamos, es lo que nos permitirá construir una idea clara de quiénes somos. 2. Evidencia del trabajo; un esfuerzo elocuente y logros evidentes complementan nuestra imagen y permiten fortalecer nuestro prestigio frente al resto de los actores. Con ello, podríamos competir eficientemente por la atención, con bastante éxito.

Para manejar luchas de poder en un equipo, primero es crucial comprender los roles y dinámicas presentes. Identifica las fortalezas y áreas de influencia de cada miembro para clarificar cómo pueden contribuir al objetivo común. Facilita conversaciones abiertas para alinear expectativas y fomentar la colaboración. Actúa como mediador neutral, estableciendo un enfoque basado en metas compartidas y no en intereses individuales. Implementa reglas claras para la toma de decisiones y asignación de responsabilidades, asegurando que todos tengan voz pero evitando conflictos por protagonismo.

I address conflicts openly and mediate discussions to ensure all voices are heard. By highlighting each actor's strengths and aligning their roles with the story's needs, I create a sense of mutual respect. Encouraging constructive feedback and celebrating collective achievements ensures harmony, helping actors focus on delivering a cohesive and compelling performance.

This really is challenging. I think the most important things to look for are: uniqueness and professionalism. Try to get a feel for what makes each individiaul actor stand out, what it is that only they can portray. try to focus on that beyond casting, general direction etc. and then be verbal: communicate that you expect actory to work with professionalism and that failure to do so will result in definitely not getting center stage. we all want to work with professionals and while we're all human, giving a certain amount of experience, all of us should hold themselves to a high standard of professionalism and find a way to channel our uniquness and creativity through that, not in spite.
