Its difficult, a Safety Off has to do inspections every 3 months, but generally split into an area a week, I had been critical when I joined, Safety Off was used to the vessel, and asked me how to go about it, I took him down to an area, I was up and down 4 times a day. We looked around and found 7 defects just standing in an alleyway. I was ashamed of myself. More defects were found going through the area. Some Companies have Observation cards, take them seriously, record them at safety meetings, fix straight away, push for improvements. If someone comes up with a stupid suggestion, ask them, you may learn from the answer. They maybe speaking from experience. I towed a yacht across the N.Sea and a Cook told me I was wrong, he was correct.
