-
1. Set Clear Expectations: Define specific goals, deadlines and quality standards & document them in task management tools for transparency. 2. Analyze the Root Cause: Discuss with the team member to understand why they underestimate and provide guidance on breaking tasks into smaller, realistic components. 3. Encourage Collaborative Planning: Use team discussions or historical data to improve estimation accuracy and introduce buffer time for unforeseen delays. 4. Monitor Progress Transparently: Implement regular updates through daily stand-ups and shared dashboards to track progress. 5. In my experience, clearly communicating your capacity to the team is fundamental in addressing this issue. The problem often arises from a lack of transparency, for instance, when a team member takes on more responsibility than they can handle. It's essential to be honest about your capacity and lean on colleagues for support when needed. Open communication ensures deadlines are met and allows for adjustments if challenges arise, especially when flagged early.

I absolutely agree with finding the root cause. You need to make sure you're solving the RIGHT problem. I've had people that underestimate for various reasons—they are worried about budgets or about being judged, they work fast on their own but forget that they need to allow time to collect information from others, or maybe they may be so new they have no idea how long something takes. Those are all things that can be addressed, but addressed differently. In the end, you can clearly articulate expectations, educate and provide feedback to help the accuracy of their estimates, etc, but for some folks, if the are great performers in every other way, I often will just add some cushion time in (mentally or literally)...just in case.

It will be clear message of participating with the team and understand the roots where the problem is coming and educate them the value of time for organisation and guide them through proper understanding of task and also encourage them at the same time this will only lead to success when team lead participate along with them
-
1. Break up task into smaller milestones. 2. Set deliverables for each 3. Include dilution in timelines based on recent experience 4. Try to beat the timeline you have created for them This will result into timely completion of task and would give team sense of achievement after each smaller milestone
