Would suggest a reading of Netflix No Rules Rules (especially the chapter on Disruptive Innovation) . The answer to this very much depends on the company culture. One has to use the mechanisms available and encouraged - look for precedence from others who have managed to get this done. - and if there is no mechanism of navigating this dilemma - then...

There is no strategy bigger than an idea that can really benefit the users as ir is gong to ultimately benefit the company too. So my bet would be on weighing the potential the idea has and if that looks worth implementing, I’d not minding altering the strategy for that. There is no A vs. B when it comes to innovation and if that warrants changing the course, so be it- for good!

To navigate the innovation dilemma, align the mobile feature with company strategy by identifying synergies. Gather cross-department feedback, prioritize user needs, and propose a pilot project to test the concept's viability without fully committing resources. Communicate benefits clearly to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with broader goals.

1) Align your idea with the company’s strategic goals. 2) Build a compelling case using data to show the feature’s potential impact, then engage stakeholders for feedback and support. 3) Highlight calculated risks as opportunities for innovation and growth.

I would present a detailed proposal showing how the feature aligns with long-term goals, gather feedback to address concerns, and explore ways to adapt the idea to better fit the company strategy while maintaining its innovative value.

If it is still on idea phase and it is good(?) then document it and put it on rest for different times to come. Company strategy is something one should devote their energy and focus. This is ofcourse that you are committed and supporting your company strategy. That’s the black and white part. Usually companies, if they are wise, welcome all ideas. Some go forward, some not. That is perfectly normal as it is. Main message is, keep the ideas coming, if it is not GO now, it might be later.

Foster Innovation within Boundaries: Work with cross-functional teams to iteratively evolve your idea in a way that respects the company’s strategy while driving innovation. This can lead to hybrid solutions that serve both the company’s strategic goals and your innovation aspirations.
