two years ago, I was hired to design a 3D model of a sci-fi spaceship for a short film. i designed a cyberpunk theme spaceship Confident in my vision, I presented it to the director only to find out his idea was completely different. He wanted steampunk version. At first, I thought his idea was absurd. How could a steampunk object work on an futuristic background? But as we talked, I realized his vision had a story. We discussed how we could merge both vision. The final model combined the best of both ideas, we created something neither of us could have done alone, and it fit the film perfectly. This taught me that creative clashes can lead to even better results when you find common ground.

Set ground before starting the project , ask all the necessary questions and make sure what the client has in mind . Setting a free revision count can also be helpful . and overall you shouldn't be over confident with your idea's and design , in fact you should sell your design . meaning you have to make the client believe that your work can be more effective but not push it when dealing with a stubborn client !
