Some ways to ensure that your client and you are on the same frequency: - Explain your perspective through data backed findings, and not just 'experience' or 'playbooks' - Give them realistic timelines and establish process and information flow chanels. They should know when to expect what, where to chase and ask, and how to seek - Better understand their issues and challenges and recommend operational tactics as needed, besides the overall strategic steering - Work with them, not just for them. Consider yourself as one team, and make synergetic moves. Divided efforts seldom lead efficient results.

You regain trust by ensuring the same transparency demanded is heeded. Ask the client for ways and methods he/she/they want(s) to be addressed. Do they want to be on every call you make to witness the things you say first hand, or to be copied in all email trail? Most importantly, ensure your efforts towards honesty is very obvious to the client on all fronts.
