Voy a usar una analogía, para describir lo que significa "enseñar español": Ser profe de español online es como tener un café cultural en una ciudad cosmopolita, donde diseño lecciones que combinan la gramática y el vocabulario con la riqueza cultural hispana. Utilizo videos, juegos y canciones para que cada clase sea una aventura única. Mis estudiantes, de diferentes países, aportan sus propias historias y experiencias de vida. Las evaluaciones son conversaciones donde compartimos impresiones, ajustando el menú para la próxima vez. En este café virtual, no solo enseño español; sino que exploramos la diversidad de su mundo. Además, muchas veces aprendo más que mis estudiantes. ¿Qué mejor?

Enseñar español, o cualquier otro idioma, es un reto. El bilingüismo no es únicamente el aprendizaje gramatical y sintáctico que si bien es la base, no es lo más importante. Cuando los estudiantes se sientan en las aulas, hay que hacerles ver y entender que la inmersión o aprendizaje de un lenguaje es una fusión de cultura, gramática y contexto, entonces no solo enseñamos una lengua, enseñamos lo que somos, como nos expresamos y como vivimos. De manera tal que, cuando ellos aprendan el español puedan dar a entender tanto gramaticalmente como emocionalmente aquellas ideas que quieren transmitir. Enseñar, es un arte ❤️

Considero que lo más pertinente es que los contenidos sean determinados por los intereses de los estudiantes. Por ejemplo, cuando yo trabajé en el programa de inmersión en español de la Universidad de Oviedo, planeaba mis clases de acuerdo a lo que mis estudiantes necesitaban; hubo una temporada en que había un contagio grande de gripa y aproveché el contexto para enseñarles un montón de volcabulario sobre el cuerpo y la salud, junto con la gramática que iban a necesitar. Fue encantador verlos llegar contentos porque se habían podido comunicar en un contexto real.

El ambiente del aula lo suele "poner" el profesor... Es importante imponer ser la autoridad, sobre todo si el aula se compone de adolescentes, pero siempre desde la cercanía y el afecto. Por supuesto y es responsabilidad del docente hacer atractivos y prácticos los contenidos para que los estudiantes "conecten" Olvídemonos de las clases magistrales e invitemos al diálogo y la contribución de unos y otros a través de experiencias y testimonios. Las clases de español pueden dar "mucho juego" en ese sentido, porque no estás ceñido a unos contenidos cerrados como sucece en otras materias como las matemáticas o la física y química, por ejemplo.

Talking about Spanish culture, which is very diverse and global is great, but I prefer to focus more on pragmatics. You can't tell a student to look up a word in the dictionary when they are at a very basic level. e.g. in my native language Persian, one of them looked up the word "luz" in Persian and found it as weightless, because the English word light has two lexicons in Persian. Another example of the importance of pragmatics in Spanish is the word pair "germen" and "brote", which have different meanings and usages depending on the context, so they're not synonyms and can't be used interchangeably.

A linguagem estrutura a forma como nós pensamos e agimos. Nas aulas de espanhol eu costumo mostrar as diferentes estratégias que os falantes das línguas do tronco latino buscaram para que suas espectativas linguísticas obtivessem êxito. Um exemplo que gosto de apresentar é a antecipação dos pontos de exclamação e interrogação. Quando lemos um texto escrito em espanhol já sabemos de antemão se uma sentença é uma pergunta, por exemplo. Isso demonstra como o idioma foi estruturado para evitar alguns problemas semânticos.

Un profesor debe ser una persona que tenga paciencia, que no tenga problema en tener que repetir el contenido de diversas maneras, debe ser alguien que esté dispuesto a aprender todos los días sobre tecnología, cultura, literatura y relaciones interpersonales.
