Imagine travelling to Nagaland, and you get to meet the local tribes and learn how to make weapons used since ancient times. Imagine spending the night singing folklore and sitting by the fire while a very kind host prepares your dinner. Does that sound boring or expensive or hard to you? I hope not! Because this is what sustainable travel looks like - more or less. It is more about exploring the local areas of a place, understanding the history of a place, not leaving behind a clutter of your waste and being mindful.

Since 'sustainability' has transitioned from a specialized term to an everyday word, people might feel overwhelmed hearing it frequently. Hands, the essence of living aware is being compromised. With a dual Bachelor's degree and a Master's of Science in tourism, I've gained extensive expertise in the field. In my experience, sustainability, especially, when you are travelling can seem like a luxury to many. Understandably, people wish to unwind and enjoy the beauties surround them while being on a trip. Avoiding spending more on green facilities sounds ideal, don't you agree? The key idea is overlooked often, sadly. Sustainability doesn't necessarily means spending; instead not spending, and emerging within and respecting the community.

Sustainability is an age old practice as an Indian we follow.Like our Granny used to do so many thing with one vegetable.e.g lemon they used to make lemon juice ,out of the peel used to make pickle.if unused or rotten one were utilised to clean etc Coming to Tourism we have to do the same.Have small practices with bigger impact .

I don’t get how a tourist becomes more “sustainable” by being “respectful and mindful.” These are tenets in life that good Parents instil to their children to apply with no boundaries. A new 55 seat coach uses about 25 litres p/100km. That’s less than half a litre per 100 per passenger! You can avoid budget tours that may impose a boring itinerary like coach tours by engaging in small zero emission ground transport operators like ourselves. Going to exactly where you wish, what time you wish saves a lot of wasted group time.

Except company registration laws that provide huge savings in from the usual EU taxes and fees.

Sustainable tourism is increasingly becaming a shallow buzzword in a world where nobody is ready to give up LCC, affordable cruises or comfort of A/C in hotel rooms. We should lead by example but instead we talk the sustainability talk but we dont walk the walk. During the pandemic the dominant narrative within tourism industry and especially academia was that it is time to stop and reflect upon unsustainable tourism practices of the past and to build back better. Unfortunately, in first post pandemic year this idea has faded away and most of tourism industry is currently focused on compensating for the losses. I go back to the initial question "What actually is sustainable tourism?" Is it a corporate CSR initiative? or is it truly something that YOU believe in? Is it a mythical unicorn?
