This is one huge area in construction where networking is important. Having the right people who know the right people is important especially when they know the industry and what to expect. It can be difficult to convince a construction company to hire "office workers" because construction workers are in the field and at times it seems unnecessary. However, the individuals doing administrative work (accounting, contracts, budgets, forecasting, negotiating) can make or a break a project before it even begins.

1. Set realistic expectations Be knowledgeable about the municipality and the expectations on timelines. There's no point in setting expectations for 2 weeks when you know they take 20 business days to turn around a permit review. 2. Get the First one In. Make the 2nd one count If you're in a municipality like mine that will ALWAYS 100% find a reason to kick your permit back, just get the first one in and get them going. On the 2nd submission, that's when you triple check everything before resubmission. 3. Encourage continuous feedback For us, when our 2nd submission is in process we try and get the inside track on potential last minute comments and deal with them without the city triggering a 3rd review.

Struggling with construction permit delays? Streamlining the approval process starts with thorough preparation. Familiarize yourself with local regulations and ensure all required documents are complete and accurate. Building relationships with permitting officials is also key—open communication can often smooth over potential hurdles. Additionally, it's wise to plan for contingencies; incorporate buffer times in your project schedule to account for unexpected delays. By staying proactive, maintaining clear communication, and allowing flexibility in your timeline, you can better navigate the permit approval process and keep your project on track.

Struggling with construction permit approvals can be frustrating, but there are strategies to expedite the process: 1. Start discussions with local authorities early in the planning process. Understand their concerns and requirements upfront to avoid delays later. 2. Ensure all paperwork is thorough, accurate, and compliant with local codes. 3. Establish good relationships with key decision-makers as they can help you in the speed of approval. 4. If a public hearing is required, be well-prepared with data and responses to potential concerns from neighbors or the community. 5. Be prepared for delays and have contingency plans in place to keep the project moving forward even if permits take longer than expected.
