I prioritize clear communication and shared vision. In one instance, I referenced Ridley Scott’s approach during Blade Runner, where he balanced Philip K. Dick's novel's depth with studio demands, ensuring creative integrity and commercial appeal. I host structured meetings, focusing on the project’s audience and goals, using data like audience demographics or trends to guide decisions. A mediator, like the director or even a story consultant, often ensures objectivity. Tools like visual storyboards also help align ideas, offering a tangible compromise.

A director is the leader in the filmmaking scenario. He visualizes things a screenwriter has conceived in words. The scriptwriter can go as far as his/her imagination leads, but the director cannot. He needs to filter them for practicality, logic, technical feasibility, and financial constraints. The director needs to translate the resultant elements into a visually appealing composition. I say this because, last week, I was directing a film on my screenplay, and I found that a director bears that One + One = Two responsibility. He is answerable to the audience, the producer/investor, and the screenwriter. But, a writer needs to answer only his internal reflections.
