How do you grow as an innovation leader?

To truly grow as an innovation leader, I advocate for an often underemphasized trait: transparency. Transparency isn't just about honesty; it's a cornerstone for trust-building. When teams trust their leaders, they feel empowered to innovate without fear. Instead of criticism, please provide them with examples and avenues to learn. A genuine innovation leader emphasizes continuous learning and cherishes diverse perspectives. Embracing calculated risks, promoting active listening, and ensuring adaptability are crucial in our ever-evolving landscape. Meaningful innovation, in essence, sprouts from collaboration nurtured in an environment of trust.

Listen. Sounds easy. In reality, true listening is very hard. Customers want to be heard. In hearing their story, you can learn about problems that they have. Their problems are your opportunities. After you have mastered listening, leading in innovation is easy. Leadership is about listening. Innovation is about listening. Innovation leadership starts here. Sure, there are other skills, like strategic thinking and decision-making, and presentation of ideas. It all starts with listening!

To be a leader, you need to have - open mindset - persistence to achieve the goals with a lot of challenges - continuous learning in every life aspect - Meet the right people who expand your experience - Accept failed experience and learn from it it's a daily work.

First things first as an innovation leader. 1. Adopt an agile mindset. Accept change. Change and innovation go hand in hand. As technology advances, so do market demands. 2. Establish a growth mindset. Discover new skills/strategies that will help you blend in. 3. Make decisions so quickly. Failure is a necessary part of the process, but it shouldn't stop you from trying new things.

I find it crucial to foster an environment where people are encouraged to innovate. Innovation is often bottom-up - and your people need freedom and security that allow them to innovate. And you need to take responsibility when/if they fail.

Resiliency- I believe an element of grit is required. Try and try again. Failure is part of life; take the lesson, or not, eventually you’ll get it, but don’t stop moving forward. Be bold enough to ask questions of those around you; we can’t be experts at everything, neither will we always be the best and brightest, but we can certainly surround ourselves with them. Keep asking questions until the uncertainty no longer plagues you on a particular subject matter. Keep asking until you’re confident enough to have an opinion, which then breeds an idea. Resilience trumps emotion and inferiority. Don’t be afraid to to get back up.

I view innovation as a creative process to imagine new uses for something that already is valuable. The process starts by identifying a customer need that is not currently met in the market. I then perform research on existing products, competitor products and products that are analogous to the need from other industries. Design Thinking provides a framework for developing creative ideas. I like to envision how the product appeals to all stakeholders; customers; colleagues and investors. Prototyping with a small team helps stakeholders visual the solution. Innovation works best when individuals can visualize how to get from Step A to Step Z and I have found this to be a successful process.

I believe that entrepreneurs have the potential to solve some of the world's biggest problems, from poverty and hunger to climate change and inequality. But I also know that entrepreneurship is not just about making money. It's about having a creative vision for a better future and the drive to make it happen. I've seen firsthand how entrepreneurs can make a difference. I've met entrepreneurs who are using technology to improve education in developing countries. I've met entrepreneurs who are creating jobs and opportunities in communities that have been left behind.These entrepreneurs were all driven by a creative vision for a better world. I believe that entrepreneurs are the ones who will change the world.

Creative vision can’t be called just an imagination to articulate a desirable future but , we should learn from our existing mistakes and start improving on them by guiding and motivating the team . Everyone has different issues , everyone thinks differently, So how can situations and problems be the same ? As an innovation leader , our methods should be based on individual experiences of all team members by sitting one on one and analysing their issues and then we will be able to provide solutions. A person well qualified and experienced May face challenges such as personal grooming or motivation, while a member who is new need to more new projects and do study to analyse .So every problem is unique and needs to be addressed differently.

If you think you are brilliant because you have all the knowledge in the world, that might be true but if you want to be an innovative leader then you need to understand how to think out of the box. A leader can develop innovative vision by walking on the unseen, unheard and uncomfortable path. This will help to imagine the possibilities when you don't have any pathways.

Don’t ever believe you are not a creative person. Think of creativity as a “muscle” that can be trained. Some people are born with fantastic creativity muscles, others work really hard to become creative bodybuilders, but the wide majority of people tend to forget creativity is in the core of our humanity. Explore, use, train and push your creative vision. It might be daunting at the beginning, but it will open up a future of awesome possibilities.

Creativity was the answer to our survival needs. How could a small man hunt a large mamut for food, or face a saber-toothed tiger to protect his family? Prehistoric humans had to be creative to meet these challenges. Some less than others, but all of us are instinctively creative. The first thing we need to do as leaders is to make our team aware of this, let them know their potential, and then cultivate creative thinking. Having a team that is motivated to think differently, that is not afraid to propose new ideas, will result in a plethora of ideas that will drive our team, our organization to innovate and stand out from the rest. It is not about being creative ourselves, it is about creating a creative environment that allows us to grow.

Innovation normally thrives at the bottom of pyramid and my experience says that a leader who wishes to adopt innovation path needs to listen to 100 different ideas and may be 11th idea plus 67th idea and half of 83th idea stitched together is equal to feasible innovation but all of them as standalone may not be unique .

Besides articulating a compelling vision, it's essential to be agile and open to pivot your vision as circumstances change. This could mean the difference between sticking to an obsolete vision and making necessary changes that could save or redefine the project. Additionally, don't just communicate the 'what' and the 'how' of your vision; make sure you deeply cover the 'why,' as it will often be the strongest motivator for your team.

I came across an enlightening article recently about Steve Jobs being extremely picky about the design, color, etc. of every household item he bought which is reflected in the designs of Apple products. Business leaders who have the ability to use creativity to solve problems and build products with the vision into the future are I believe the true innovators.

I learned a valuable lesson from a top rugby coach in Australia: change up your fitness routine every 3 weeks for optimal performance. Because their followers are going to look up on them to get a solution for a problem, this way least they could use their innovative thinking to understand the problem and suggest a possible solution.

Humbleness is a key factor to be innovate and growth as a leader It is necessary to learn, to accept other points of view, to listen carefully those young brains within the organization that don’t have our experience but a fresh mind. The short read, “Weeding by Example”, is a great simple example of how to portrait the work ethic you except of others. Never be afraid to hire people to your team that are smarter than you are. No one person has all the answers! Learn from others on your team and more importantly, allow them to teach you new skills and put new tools in your tool box.

Encourage reverse mentoring. This is where younger or less-experienced individuals mentor senior members. It's a potent way to infuse fresh perspectives into leadership and shows humility, a cornerstone of servant leadership. Plus, it validates the voices of all team members, regardless of rank.

Old leadership was based on the idea that the boss was the most knowledgeable member of the team and that the other team members had nothing to contribute. Maybe that was true when knowledge was not so easy to come by. But now we are more people, better educated: Knowledge is at our fingertips, and society is becoming digitally literate. This context has changed the paradigm: now every member of the team has something to contribute. Therefore, as a leader, we need to involve all team members, give them the opportunity to express themselves, and really listen to them. I really believe in the dialectical method: together we are more likely to come up with better answers.

As an IP profession this is helpful and important to utilize. Asking the right questions, to get others to more fully realize their initial concept, in order to more round out the initial concept to a broader invention. Otherwise it can be a slippery slope to co-inventorship. By not trying to be an inventor on others initial ideas, you can create leadership by followership.

Problem identification Become an expert of problem identification. Innovation starts with a problem statement you are trying to solve for, focus on big problems that require big solutions.

The most innovative people are those who have let their imagination loose and let their actions guided by instincts rather than any systemic ways .However there is a method to their madness that leads them to be happy with what they are achieving by the day .Two major prerequisites as per me are (a) let people do what gives them joy and select such people whose joy and your objectives match (B) let not any system rule them just results objectives to be agreed (C) give them free hand and guide them when they stray from the overall objectives and show the direction

Innovation can be achieved by reacting fast to new trends and creating new demand. Two bestsellers cover each aspect: Zero to One and Blue Ocean strategy Reacting fast to new trends market can be achieved by keeping your community close and listening to them. ZTO: Small niches that operate as a monopoly benefit from this approach. As BOS expresses, the most significant opportunity within business innovation comes from converting non-existing demand into customers. One key move is identifying and eliminating the less valuable parts of the industry's value proposition. Allowing to achieve differentiation by doing less, hence being more cost-effective which will leave room to improve other ends of the business while being cost-savvy.

To grow your innovation practices, alignment is key. Yes, you need to challenge current strategies and goals, but ultimately, your innovation activites need to have an impact on your organisations ultimate goal. Thus, your innovation practices need to be aligned with this ultimate goal, even when strategies to reach this goal might change over time. If you have a product strategy in place, this is where you could start with regularly checking your alignment.

Consistency and Grit The journey towards getting an innovative idea to market is a long one and requires lots of character traits to stay on course. One of the most important one of these is consistency. Keeping at it and grinding no matter what is thrown at you. There will be rejected offers for funding, unreplied email advances, lost team members who loose focus from the vision, but what truly matters is you to stay the course and keep sending those cold emails, updating your social media accounts of the progress and keep seeking the right audience to support your idea. The backbone to this is Grit. If the vision around your innovative idea is strong, why give up on it, do whatever is legally possible to get that vision to reality.
