How can you resolve conflicts with team members who have different ideas about how to design a feature?

Design problems are often stated as solutions (e.g. "Design a chair"). It is upto the design team to glean the actual problem statement and articulate it in the simplest form ("How to sit"). Only then the you can ask the right questions ("Who will sit? To do what? Where? How long? Etc.) leading to creative design solutions rather than just taking the problem statement at face value and barely meet expectations in the solution.

- Define very well the problem. - Then just highlights we are going to solution-oriented approach, nothing else. - Collect the best part from different perspective of each, combine them as the best one.

That's true. Communication is important to integrate the minds of team and align them towards the goal. Without communication they will go off direction and may stuck in between.

Here you need to care about two things 1- The overall organisation goal 2- Team relationship If you have a good team culture then the arguments don't affect relationships because you as a team will always argue with each other for the best possible solution. Teams priority is to align with the organisation goal so with a lot of respect you have to come up with logical reasons within your team that why you think this is the better solution.

Every suggestion matters, because it's better than having none. However the team will have to boil down to one option. This is through productive discussion, analyzing what works and what doesn't, if there are multiple options, whichever requires least amount of resources, time being a big factor.

After hearing the various ideas, evaluate them through multiple lenses. Some examples of lenses below: 1. disruptive v/s practical (strategic v/s tactical) 2. user profiles suitability (some ideas will work better for new users, some for pro users) 3. maturity of the idea to be taken to fruition (half-baked ideas often are a recipe for future failures. Has the proposer of the idea thought it through multiple use-cases & scenarios), 4. tech feasibility (time & effort to launch). By using these lenses, we are being objective rather than subjective with the various ideas. The final prioritisation of ideas will less likely to be perceived as cause for conflict when evaluated thoroughly in this manner

As a team we may get a lots of ideas and suggestions but it's not possible to implement each of them. So we need to prioritise according to some factors and implement accordingly.

Most often, proposed solutions might face rejection because they're limited to your perspective. If your solution isn't accepted, it doesn't devalue your input. It simply means others aren't entirely satisfied with that specific solution. Instead of being arrogant or losing confidence, seek a middle ground. Explore alternative ideas and aim to create an optimal solution by incorporating various perspectives. This approach fosters a healthier team environment.

It is very important to be flexible and be open for compromises. If you wont accept a compromise or another solution you wont contribute in the best possible way you could. It is important to think about the whole team and not just about oneself.

It's essential to ensure that people don't feel disheartened when their suggestions are declined. Managers should strive to maintain a positive atmosphere, even when rejecting certain ideas.
