Therefore, it’s essential to have a validated understanding of how users interact with the current design. By gathering user feedback, we can start ideating new solutions. This is when mood boards, benchmarks, and trending designs can inspire us. Sometimes, diving deep into the specifics of a problem can lead us to create a new pattern that might become trendy on its own. In any case, it’s important not to use a pattern solely because it’s popular. The ultimate criteria should be its impact on UX and alignment with business goals.

One helpful approach is to always put the user first designing with their needs and preferences in mind leads to a more enjoyable experience. However, I’d question focusing only on the latest UX trends; sometimes, classic principles work better than trendy updates. For example, a clear navigation bar may seem basic, but it remains one of the most effective ways to help users find what they need quickly.

Focus on your users needs. Use common patterns instead of training new behaviors. Usability test and hear from actual users and translate these insights into live market tests and practice continuous improvements.

Key elements include: - Speed: The app should load quickly and efficiently. - User Interface: The interface should be intuitive and user-friendly. - Intuitive Interface: The interface should be easy to navigate and understand. - Clear Language: The app should use clear and concise language. - Tool-tips: Tool-tips should provide helpful information when needed.

I always ask myself 2 questions in regards to mobile usability: 1) What pieces or themes of my app are special and should stand out? 2) What pieces can default to the common materials of the user's OS? While it depends on the industry, user base, and app goals, I have found more often than not that you don't have to reinvent the wheel much on component design. This is valuable for a few reasons: 1) You're not going to design a button or overlay or card or any other material that Apple or Google have already designed. 2) These are the components that are inherent to users' everyday lives and personal mobile operations. 3) Developers and PMs will love you because development and time to release is faster.

AI has multiple forms of user experience application but applying machine learning and using AI tools for multi variant testing has reaped practical application is evaluating what works and in combination for differing cohorts. Other applications of AI are still less relevant as a practical solution and offers opportunities to experiment with copy authoring - however this is not applicable for all verticals.

With the AI craze we are in, I have found it incredibly important to ask product teams and end users themselves where they think AI would actually be helpful in an application. Let's say a mobile app contains 200 micro flows or functions. How many are primary? Of these, how many could benefit from assistive technology to more easily accomplish a task? Of those, how many will users actually adopt? Researching these questions and more before even putting pen to paper optimizes adoption and saves time building something that may seem like a great idea but could be a waste of time employing. Then, perpetuate this process to evolve the app over time.

A helpful aspect of Agile is its focus on flexibility quickly iterating and adapting to changes keeps designs relevant and user-centered. However, one thing to watch out for is over-frequent changes, which can disrupt focus and stability. For instance, running regular but balanced feedback loops can improve designs without overwhelming the team or users with constant shifts.

An agile mindset is good to practice but is dependent on multidisciplinary acceptance when moving into practice. Still today, many technology firms say agile but what they mean is waterfall in sprints vs true agile practice.

Agile is 100% necessary in my experience, especially for mobile, because mobile devices, flow, and usability are, by nature, more agile and fluid than other technology interfaces. Applications are constantly updated in mobile environments, and the use of iOS and Google materials, human interface guidelines, and updates required to stay current to them make it critical to always be flexible, and employ product, development, and QA teams that work this into their normal operations.

For example, adding clear consent options for data usage respects privacy while still allowing users to engage easily with your app.

Both Apple and Google devices do a fabulous job of empowering design and QA teams to stay on top of accessibility issues as they arise, furthering the point that accessibility, privacy, and security should be part of product and engineering teams' normal operations, rather than items that are nice to have, and considered only when problems arise.

Dissect what they do, but don’t treat it as a rule, treat it as a learning opportunity. Read, practice the craft and mentor, you will learn from mentorship as much as you will by being a practitioner.

This is a daily part of the job. Teams, sprints, and releases are often overwhelmed with getting the job done and keeping up with market needs, user needs, and additional feature creation. However, much like privacy and accessibility, staying informed of new ideas, technologies, usage metrics, market trends, etc need to be a part of a design team's regular operations. I have always found it to be a very helpful and also very fun thing to allocate 1/2 hour a week (or every two weeks) to have designers come together and bring a new concept to the table and make the rest of the team aware of it. These can be ideas, stories, relevant current events, research topics, etc.
