Go beyond having an access policy or an EDI policy- what does this mean in practice? One useful question for the team is "what do you need to do your best work?". As a team leader, try to model what you want others to be comfortable with e.g. be honest about your own access needs, ask the questions of partners etc about access options, introduce yourself in an inclusive way using pronouns and a visual description etc. It saves those who need it having to ask.

In my experiences in diverse group conflicts have definitely arise from misunderstandings or differing opinions. I believe in the power of effective communication, acknowledging everyone’s feelings. Being transparent, and providing feedback constructively can foster a positive work environment and prevent misunderstandings. Strengthening communication skills will not only enhance collaboration, also contribute to a more cohesive productive team dynamic with solutions that is acceptable to everyone. Training in conflict resolution can be beneficial equipping all with strategies to maintain harmony.
