You probably heard this question at least once during interviews: Where do you see yourself five years from now? The key to answering this question and impressing the recruiter is having a long-term career plan and asking for feedback can help us prepare one. So why? In fact, we are not always the best judges of our own talents, abilities, and capabilities. As part of the career planning process, we should consider not only feedback from our superiors and mentors but also feedback from our clients and customers. As a result, they may reveal career opportunities we hadn't considered before, give us insight into strengths we may be overlooking, and provide insight regarding areas in which we can grow.

After gathering diverse feedback, it's time to organize it. My favorite way to organize notes, guides and calendars is to use Notion App, since it's a one-stop shop for everything. So, Note 1 can explain what your career goals are based on your discussions with your managers / mentors. The feedback and suggestions you received from your clients/customers could be mentioned in Note 2. In Note 3, we can outline the skills you already possess and those you need to learn. In Note 4, we can describe the development activities to pursue over the next five years to meet your goals. We address any obstacles to achieving our goal in Note 5 and Note 6 is the future, so we mention what is new in our life/career and adjust the plan accordingly.

We listen to feedback to learn about our weaknesses, but really, we need to flip the script. Ask more feedback about what you're good at. Positive psychology research tells us we have more growth potential in areas we are strong in, versus our weaknesses. So, when you're considering your next career path, ask your friends and colleagues questions like, "What do you know more for? What am I best at? If you could say I'm dependable for one skill, what would that be?"
