Setting boundaries with clients who exceed session time limits is essential for professionalism and respect. Begin by clearly communicating the session length at the outset, reminding clients gently as the session nears its end. Use firm yet courteous language to close on time, reinforcing that staying within limits benefits both parties by allowing focus and consistency. If a client repeatedly overextends, discuss this pattern directly, suggesting options like scheduling longer sessions or additional appointments. By upholding these boundaries consistently, you model respect for time, ensuring productive sessions while maintaining a balanced coaching schedule.

It's quite common, but valuing each other's time is critical and important. Here’s how I approach - I prefer to draw up a calendar in advance that outlines the objectives of each session. - At the end of each session, I make it a habit to paraphrase and summarize the key points discussed. - I encourage clients to maintain a digital diary where they can add their views and reflections after each session. This not only provides a record of our discussions but also helps in setting the focus points for the next session. I agree, it's important to set boundaries, also feel it's equally important to be flexible when necessary. certain emerging needs may call in for attention, client may need help and support.

At MSA we don't have session time limits because they're dumb and outdated. We get **** done. Now if that takes 2 hours, 17 minutes and 49 seconds then that's completely fine. And if it takes 24 seconds - that's fine too. Why should the success of your business be tied to some arbitrary timer? F*** hourly sessions.

As a coach its up to you to manage your time effectively. Signpost at the beginning you have an hour or 90 minutes together, maybe half way through or at appropriate interval advise how much time left you ahve together today. Wrap up and look to wrap up 10 minutes before end of session so you can ensure learning and any actions are briefed.
