For me a key part is customer feedback, through feedback we can understand and know many situations that only customer experiment, attend claims and verify how to innovate based on customer needs, trends and continuing monitoring competition. Also constant training to every employee in order to engage them into the vision and pillars of the company.

To keep your product relevant you have to customize and adapt the product fast to the market. Time to market is key! If you are no able to meet the market/customer expectations your product will be a flop. Development, Sales and Marketing have to work together.

This is a "always there" kind of a problem. Such situations I personally went back to the drawing board & looked at my product. Very often in the glam of product where we highlight few things, we miss the details of other benefits that product can offer. At times they become more relevant for eg Privacy was always there in iPhones but Apple chose to advertise it only recently when they felt the need is there. So look at your product before you decide to change it. A better research on trends will help you plan a better forward looking product so focus on that as well

The most important is to understand how consumers are changing and what are their needs. The connection with your audience is crucial to evolve with them. Listen actively their pains and discover how much they are willing to pay for a product or solution will help to prioritise your activities. Besides te current audience, look at the market to attract new consumers is always important. Your brand has to satisfy your loyal consumers, but it should look for new tribes. They will represent the expansion of the business.

Focus on the issues that your product can resolve. We sell air & surface purification. You can't see it, smell it, taste it or touch it - talk about a tough sell. Our products go into HVAC systems so it is not aesthetically pleasing (and it doesn't have to be). We have the ability to enter/focus on verticals based on the current issue in that industry. We monitor trends: Food Manufacturing = tracking FDA recalls. Healthcare = tracking CDC notices. Hospitality = wellness trends. Pets = viruses affecting pets. We know that these issues can come and go quickly but they tend to follow the same patterns (a virus is a virus) within the vertical so we market an "insurance approach" for future outbreaks.
